I was looking at getting a used one, because a lot of film makers will buy a 7D shoot a film on it, then flip the camera to recoup some of the overall expenses from their shoot. And cameras hold up in quality pretty damn well.

There is a transitional period where your plants slow down root growth and begin to focus on promoting flowers.

Also, try to tuck the leaves before you remote to trimming. Tucking is a much better idea.

Trimming for even light distribution is a common tactic used around here. Keep it to a minimum though. Using training techniques like LST would also help you even out your canopy
