pool shock vs ozone in DWC to maintain 600mV ORP

From what I've researched, it'll take a higher amount to kill pathogens that have already taken hold, but a lot less for prevention. As rykmtnman said, prevention is better than reactive measures. I'm planning to not only keep my res temps down under 70, but also plan to alternate between h2o2...

pool shock vs ozone in DWC to maintain 600mV ORP

Correct. (Total Liters of water) x (desired ppm) / (pool shock concentration) = mg of pool shock to use. 247L x 3ppm / .5 = 1482mg

pool shock vs ozone in DWC to maintain 600mV ORP

IIRC.... 1ppm = 1mg/L 1g (1000mg) of pool shock at 50% = 500mg of available chlorine 1 gal = 3.8L ppm of 1g of 50% pool shock in 1 gal = 500mg/3.8L = ~131 ppm You should be able to do the calculations for the pool shock you have and desired volume. If the amount needed is too low for an...

    Using Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2)

I was thinking of a conical jet nozzle of some sort, but the water pressure doesn't seem to be high enough for that. I thought about a sprinkler type setup but the water pressure would drop and I need the pressure to mix the DWS bucket water at the bottom since my drain is up top as well.

Autodosing "UC Roots" or H2O2 w/ aquarium doser?

My roots haven't even gone past the net pot yet so I got time to figure this out. The more research I do, the more stuf I wanna buy... LOL

    Using Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2)

Ah, good. That's what I have right now, so I'll see how it goes. ~400gpm split to two 1/2" water lines to an elbow entering my dwc buckets from the top edge of the bucket. Thanks! Maybe I can skip the H2O2 and just use my homebrew UC Roots...

pool shock vs ozone in DWC to maintain 600mV ORP

IIRC, just multiply your desired ppm by the % to get the amount you need to add. The ppm should be based on 100%, so at 50% strength, you'd need 2x the amount. I'll be making my own UC roots w/ a table salt and one of those electrolysis spray bottle devices. 1g table salt to 300ml water, turn...

    Using Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2)

Isn't that just H2O2 and vinegar?

    Using Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2)

Ah ok. That definitely makes more sense... I'm going to run a constantly "sterile" system so won't be doing that anyways. Most of my interest in H2O2 is for the increased DO, as I'm trying to evaluate running w/o a noisy airpump by using a waterfall and increasing water circulation, but I...

Autodosing "UC Roots" or H2O2 w/ aquarium doser?

Has anyone setup an autodoser to add oxidizers to their res water? I've seen dosing schedules for both H2O2 and UC Roots (I know I can't use both at the same time) and was wondering if the water needs the shock factor of the high/low cycle of these oxidizers or if I can just maintain a somewhat...

    Using Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2)

I have read that you can use very low dose H2O2 and bennies by adding bennies first, waiting a bit, then adding a very low dose of H2O2. However, I'm not sure if this has any effect other than adding a bit more DO to the system. You might as well run a "sterile" system without bennies, as it...

    Bleach for running sterile rez?

FWIW, I did some research and decided to use DIY UC Roots. Basically got one of those hypochlorus acid electyrolysis spray bottles where you add salt water and the device electrolyzes it into concentrated UC roots solution. I worked out ~1g of table salt to 300ml of water = 0.03% solution (UC...

Slightly rough start, do these look okay?

I had a really weird issue with my dwc ppms increasing every day for a somewhat unknown reason. 5 days after transplanting them into the net pots, I decided to do a full system water change with 8gal distilled water and one gal of fridge filtered water. Added back 10ml ea of the gh nutes and...

    ppm keeps creeping up

Oh, nice chart. Thanks!! I'll keep this for reference later on. I'm only in week 2 of my grow and my seedlings only have like 4 leaves so it seems a bit too early for them to be drinking much of anything.

    ppm keeps creeping up

Ah, ok. They seem to be doing fine right now and I'm seeing new growth. I'll do my partial change w/ distilled water tonight and lower the pH some more.

    ppm keeps creeping up

I always thought nute ppm recommendations are added to whatever water ppm was? So if I wanted 200ppm of nutes and my water was 200, then total ppm should be 400? What's weird is the rising ppm which I'm currently attributing to the hydroton (but not too sure). I'll be swapping out the water...

    ppm keeps creeping up

Background: I built what is essentially a mini continuous flow DWC system using 2x 5gal growing buckets and 1x 5gal res. 400gpm pump sends soup to the 2 growing buckets that fill via waterfall action and a raised drain tube (that allows me to easily adjust water level) drains much faster than...

    Tall seedlings with bent cotyledons

I checked on them just now and the saw leaves grew a bit more but the stretching still worries me a bit. The container has no more standing water but the hydroton is still damp. Rockwool is still pretty wet, so I'm not sure if the hydroton absorbed it all or it evaporated. If they're ready to...

    Tall seedlings with bent cotyledons

A single tap root is poking out from under the rockwool of both. About 1cm or so. I reduced the water in the rockwool but I'm not sure if they'll re-absorb it from the hydroton. I'll check on them again tomorrow morning. Thanks!
