Hi all,
So I spent about 2 days now researching on how to keep a sterile system and came across many posts here how pool shock can be used instead of Athena cleanse or UC roots at a fraction of the cost(good start so far).
My issue came from finding way to many posts on how to mix the pool shock properly ( dosage wise ).
add 0.1g to 10 gallons is 1ppm , or 1 gram per gallon of ro water then 3ml/gal and so on, what i have a hard time finding is the formula, since pool shock can have different percentage of Calcium Hypochlorite ( some are 52% , 56.44% 61% ) and so on.
So if i have a pool shock that is say 100% how much do i mix then or @52% ?
I came across a post from @jijiandfarmgang were she explained some interesting information regarding ORP , so i started to research that and came across ozone generators that can be pumped into the hydroponics system and controlled by an ORP device, that will turn on the ozone generator when your levels fall below a certain point ( https://milwaukeeinstruments.com/milwaukee-mc510-orp-controller-with-mounting-kit/ )
So if the entire point of keeping a sterile reservoir is keeping the ORP at or around 600mV then why not just use the milwaukee i linked with some ozone generator and never buy pool shock or UC roots and so on ? am i missing something? does ozone increasing the orp same as Calcium Hypochlorite increasing orp ?
What do you guys think? and please if anyone has a formula they can share with me for the pool shock that would be great.
**Note i just found this calculator for chlorine. Not sure if its accurate or not but if anyone can check and let us know that would be great
