A #4 screw might still fit in those same holes. Hop on down to the store and grab a couple and try one out. If it's to loose than it won't work. If it's to tight be careful to not snap the screw and drill the holes a bit larger. There is a thread in the led section with info on tapping the...

    5 cxb 3590 in 2x4x5 tent?

In a different thread it was mentioned that the 3070 series might have more intensity where the 3590 had more spread due to the same number of diodes but a more compact layout.

    DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

I think the rising copper prices started the trend. Thanks to meth we are recycling more of it now and the prices are dropping.

Nifty little chart I found to help pick out the right style. I think I ordered mine from mcmaster.com.

    Repairing/upgrading LED

You could reuse the heatsinks with some 730nm far red chips and make some "night night lights"

    Repairing/upgrading LED

The 3070s already have places with no heatsink contact that could create hot spots. If you run a bigger chip then there will be more area of the chip without contact. I would recommend new heatsinks either way

    DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

Electricity travels on the surface of the wire. Multi strand wire has a higher surface area than solid core and can handle more current load. Your wire may have stretched during manufacturing or sometime after causing the break or it was just cheap crap. Always use good quality wire. It has...

Pictures of your DIY lights - Post your pics!!!

I like how you set it up to for stringing another light. Those small details make this light impressive to me. The only thing I would have done differently is to use a grommet or sheath on the wires where they run through the heatsink. Great job

    WeedBulbs PowerBLUE CFL with HPS

The attachments didn't work. Do you have a link? Your first point is just not true. Efficiency isn't based on the size or wattage of the fixture. It is based on how much light is produced per watt.

I used #4 screws on mine. It doesn't have to be an m3. It just needs to fit through the holder.

    5 cxb 3590 in 2x4x5 tent?

Should be fine. The higher the current the higher the lights will need to be. If you are worried about the height than make sure you use a dimmable driver

    Will LED lights ever....

Something else that hasn't been mentioned much is the ability to remove the heat from an area without reducing light. Typically when you run an air cooled hood with hid lights you lose light output from the glass you must pass through before reaching the plants. Leds ability to use heatsinks can...

    Will LED lights ever....

This only takes into account upfront cost. Cost of replacing bulbs, heat extraction, smaller yeilds per electrical usage should be included in a business plan for a commercial setup. Coupled with the fact you could run multiple levels to capitalize the sq ft of the rented space better and any...

    Will LED lights ever....

There is a small flaw in your thinking. 5000w of hps "heat" is about 3400w of heat. To get the same amount of heat output from cxb leds you would need to run 7700w in the same area. It would still increase yeild though

    Will LED lights ever....

Those facts are fudged to prove yourself right. Upfront cost is the only reason using them in a commercial environment wouldn't be better. The lettuce factory was an example of what could be done if you weren't required to hang your light 8 feet above the plant. Obviously with weed you would...
