    BML Spyder600 Review

Yeah it's fun to play with, I like this combo. Everything looks perfect, they use top bin 3W Osram chips running at 350mA and give all the meaningful numbers. They only problem is that these number are very low. The combo I linked should be ultra-efficient but it shows as just 1.4 umol/J...

    2x Vero 29 COB + 1000x individual diode combination - Request advice/input

There is also the Mean Well HLG-185H-48A, 3.9A dimmable. But like abi and overthinker said, consider running softer, with more COBs to spread both the heat and the light. The Vero 4000K is excellent by itself btw and doesn't really need a thousand little 5mm diodes.

Thinking of a new light ..

Let the bikeshedding commence... My vote, should I have any, is to make it hot pink so as to attract more females into this crowd. With Hello Kitty stickers just to make sure.

DiY LEDs - How to Power Them

Remember that Oslon SSL-80 has a bit tight 80 degree angle, I would prefer SSL-150. And also the 3T4T bin. But this combination is not sold ready made on star I think.

The effect is real, Cree calls it dopant atom activation. It's the case temperature.

Apache AT600 led vs 1000w HPS Blue Dream Grow

Did you divulge to the plant physiologist what plants and what light levels you are using. His explanation that the same light- and CO2 levels will have the same carbon fixation might hold as an approximation for lower light intensities (the linear region). But at 1200 umol/m2 you are far away...

Anyone else noticed how these LEDs are at their best after 8000 hours of cool running.

AKA the Hans option? Btw I always wondered how effective a fan can be when it can't really blow properly. Won't a little standoff improve things?

The fans help a lot with cooling but are not strictly required. In the first few days there was an unscheduled test, thanks to Chinese QC, where the fan power stopped working. Passive cooling saved the day. I did some tests with the upgraded light and passive cooling still works well enough. The...

    Step into my grow room

Excellent question GG, cooling is always the hardest part. If I replace the word heatsink with radiator then perhaps it will become more familiar what is happening. The T bars form a radiator that the air can freely move through. There is nothing to obstruct the airflow like with normal...

    It's the aluminium T-profiles, 1m long, 30x30x3mm.

    Step into my grow room

I think that's very true, with DIYing you can get great numbers both as wattage and as efficiency. This light would do 1.8 µmol/J. There's a total of 900 Bridgelux 1W diodes. Why not start small. Just an eensy little companion light. It's totally harmless, really. It's not like a gateway light...

Those good prices at Newark must be US only. When I go there it says that no pricing is available on the Vero's. If I select my country (NL) it goes to farnell.nl where the Vero's cost 3x as much as at Digikey... I'm seeing pretty even heatsink temperatures, there is not really a chance for...

    Step into my grow room

Some ingredients for a new grow light came in. My recipe is very simple, just add some aluminium T-profile, wiring, solder and silicon glue to get this The Mean Well HLG-185H-C1400A driver powers 5 strings in parallel, each string made up of 5 Vero 10's. The trick of parallel driving is to...

The CXB baylight may be all Cree-built but it's just not very efficient. Think of CXB as the the B-version of the CXA... It's also a high baylight so likely very tight light cone. Some months ago I saw here a Chinese made baylight with about 20 smaller CXA COBs and parabolic little reflectors...

Vero's are about half a dollar per Watt, mean well drivers about 35 cents per Watt. If you are tempted to go DIY check out this, it has the very easy COB+CPU cooler design with a good choice of components. That would be the Bridgelux OLM series. It's two vero's inside a casing with a plastic...

    spectrum guys 200 watt fixture

My guess is this floodlight grows better than most dedicated growlights out there. To get better than this would require more money, or you would have to build it yourself. So it looks like a good deal. But 200W with passive cooling will get hot so keep the air flowing around it. Bridgelux sells...

The COBs in that thing are square so it's not Vero (which are round). Probably it are China-assembled multi-arrays with chinese phosphor and if they are telling the truth Bridgelux dies. I don't know the difference between pure white and daylight, but for flowering 3 warm (2700-3000K) to 1 cool...
