Getting ready for DIY LED and Grow Room...looking for advice.

The RSP way suck, but I don't think it is a simple one to one comparison as you are making it out to be, and I was never claiming to be any kind of expert, I was mostly saying I was able to get about that cost point with the RSP. People have been using the HLG-185-C1400 I think, which would be...

Getting ready for DIY LED and Grow Room...looking for advice.

I was able to hit about $0.7 per watt with my last build, by using Meanwell RSP-320-36 power supplies, they are only 90% efficient but they crush it when it comes to cost when compared with anything else I have found, from a reputable supplier, with an order over more then 10 they cost only $51...

Square Aluminum water cooled heat sink?

I agree, for the home user water cooling would likely present more potential problems for the costs involved. But if you were talking a large scale commercial operation it would be killer.

Square Aluminum water cooled heat sink?

Has anyone considered using square aluminum tubing, weld on end caps with taps for water cooling? http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?id=1271&step=2&top_cat=60 There is all sorts of this stuff!

How much Kapton is too much?

I ordered mine on amazon prime, I assume most anything on there is not crap, everything is reviewed, free 2 day shipping... I think it cost $13 for 36 yards of one inch tape, rated at 25 lbs per square inch. I used it to mount the heat sinks in the aluminum channels even. I applied the thermal...

How much Kapton is too much?

I would think that as long as you are not covering the array of LEDs you should be fine. I am currently building some lights and using the Kapton tape for mounting, I figure its mostly for stability from bumps and vibrations. I am mounting them on the 4.6" heat sinks from heat sink USA, I tested...

Photosynthesis Under Solid State Light. Setting the Standards .

I was not meaning to imply that the high CRI unto its self would make it a better grow light, the CRI has nothing to do with my statement beyond indicating which light I was referring to. I was just looking at the fact that it has much more red in the higher end of the spectrum and more magenta...

Photosynthesis Under Solid State Light. Setting the Standards .

Speaking of spectrum spread, has the CXB3590 3000k 90 CRI been looked at, it looks to have the best spread I have seen so far just by eyeballing it. http://www.cree.com/~/media/Files/Cree/LED%20Components%20and%20Modules/XLamp/Data%20and%20Binning/ds%20CXB3590.pdf

Six CXA3070AB 2x2.5 gorilla scrog grow

Looks like good stuff :) The LEDs do the job for sure. I like the idea of passive cooling also, just going to cost more up front to do it. I was checking out the CXA2 aka CXB? 3000k, and wonder about the 90 CRI one, seems like the spectrum shift would make up for the slightly lower lm/watt...

Heatsink help for 6 vero 29 panel im building

You could build 4 square panels with 4 lights each, however, I think you would need really big squares to evenly spread out the light over the canopy. I was recently working on designing my next lights and I went through a bunch of different build concepts, in a large part because I was...

Heatsink help for 6 vero 29 panel im building

You can use 4 inch chunks of the 4.6 inch serrated fin heat sink from heat sink USA with a 120mm fan on each one, make 6 foot bars, space the lights at about 1 foot, space 4 bars evenly, 1.5 foot apart or so in the tent.

Photosynthesis Under Solid State Light. Setting the Standards .

So what I get out of all of this is that my hunch on the 4000k lights was right on the mark woo hoo! It seems like as long as the intensity is high enough the 4000k should have more then enough blue to get the maximum reduction in internode spacing for veg, and the right distribution for...

    Next lighting LED $1,600??????

I think with the DIY lights people can get the cost to down between $0.80-1.00 a watt. That is with Bridgelux or Cree components, using name brand Meanwell drivers, given it takes a small amount of know how, but crushes $2.40 a watt.

COB Spacing and Power To COB Talk

I agree with what you are saying GG, I had forgotten the definition of PPFD. I am in agreement that PPFD would be the preferred term, over par watts per square foot. The PAR interval does have an upper boundary of how many photons in a particular spectrum can be effectively utilized. I don't...

COB Spacing and Power To COB Talk

This would all be assuming that we are using the right kinds of LED COBs in which all of the light being output falls into the PAR interval. GG: The only point I am trying to make here is that if you are having photons being output that are outside of the PAR interval that they are not going to...

    Twilight LED Grow Light Questions

I would be happy to take a free light and compare how it works to my DIY Bridgelux 29 4000K V1 lights. I have 2 8x4 grow tents each running 6x100 watt Vero 29s, and I am looking to set up another 8x4 tent as soon as possible. You send me a light I will compare and contrast them no problem.
