Red / Blue vs White LED?

Its not that the large size COBs are more efficient... its the complexity of the build. Who wants to wire 500x3 watt diodes... when you can just wire 15x100 watt diode arrays. Plus the large size diode arrays (COBs) can be mounted on most any aluminum slab as a heat sink simpler then mounting a...

    First Timer Need Help

5000k-2700k goes from blue to red. However, not every 5000k spectrum light is going to have the same distribution of blue and red, the 5000k is just an over all representation of the blue and red. The LEDs that people are using to build DIY lights on this forum, mainly the Cree and Bridgelux...

    First Timer Need Help

I have not noticed any significant issues with stretching using my 4000k Vero 29s for vegging. My plants seem bushier and more compact then what I see under other peoples MH, or whatever it is they are using... It might just have to do with light intensity though.

    Taking pictures under LED lighting

I think you can mount the LEDs with Kaptan tape... I have not done it yet but I plan to on my next build, and the electrical aspect of it is mostly plug and play.

    ...All Things Vero...

That price range does not seem horrible... Digikey is suppose to have the Vero 29s on may 2nd for $28.21, when I checked a few weeks ago. I would personally just wait the 4 days for Digikey to get them in stock and order them from there, shipping is super cheep and fast inside the US and you...

    Taking pictures under LED lighting

Build your own LED light that has a nice balanced 80-90 CRI with large size COBs such as the Vero 29 :) In all honesty though... Seems to me that is the kind of thing you could adjust for with photoshop or something by adjusting the color levels? But really... Building your own LED grow light...

    Best color temp for veg?

I thought I saw some posts around here that were talking about people using the 2700k for flowering with the result being plants that stretched more then desired because there was a lack of blue light. That being said I used Vero 29s 4000k for veg and flower with great results on both stages. It...

    Flavor under led

No, different strains, different growing styles, its not a perfect comparison. But I would still argue that at a certain point density will become counter productive. I think a lot of people are growing for straight up yield, and bud porn feel and I think all to often that does not equate to...

    Flavor under led

One of my friends was commenting on how he did not think the buds had the same density as what he was getting under HPS, but I don't think a denser bud equates to better quality. If you think about it, the leaf is not actually what you are going for, you are aiming to maximize the trichomes. If...

    Flavor under led

When I have compared what I grew under my 4000k Vero 29s to what my friends have grown under HPS the Vero 29s came out ahead. Better smell and taste, better trichomes, over all better results IMO.

    Torn between two builds

I am likely wrong... I never measured exactly how close they were to the plants but yes... I do have experience with it, I have two 6 LED Vero 29 lights, with the lights running at 2.1 amps. I just went back and looked at some of the pictures... I will admit when I am wrong... They were more...

    Torn between two builds

Even at 2.1 amps you can get the Vero 29s up maybe 3 inches away from the top of the cola without any major issues. I would say the issue has more to do with heat generation then light intensity when it comes to them being close to the plant.

    ...All Things Vero...

I was running 6 Vero 29s 4000K at 2.1 amps in a 4x6 space, they were used for veg and flower. My yield was .75 grams per watt, on my first indoor grow with several errors... such as our cat peeing in one of the plants... Depending on how exactly you do the math it works out to about 25 wpsf. I...

The Future of LED: U of A-CEAC 2015 LED Symposium

Man how many of us are in Oregon? Show of hands? "Raises hand" Maybe we need to start some kind of DIY LED build CO-OP.

    2700k question

I used some 4000k and they rocked, super great tricomb's, nice compact plants. Plus the 4000k is balanced enough that it can be used for both Veg and Flowering.

My Simple DIY Vero 29 Veg to Grow

7 Plants in a 6x4 area, under 6 Vero 29s. 1 pound of dry cannabis. works out to be about .75 grams per watt. I am going to call it a smashing success for a first indoor grow.

    Heatsinks for DIY LED lamps

I would add that if you are using active cooling, something like computer heat sinks, they are not simply cooling the heatsink, they are also adding some air movement to your grow area which is important. The only reasons I see to go passive are, you really want it to be quite, or you are...

    DIY COB reflectors

Given that diffuse light is more effective, why not consider some kind of DIY diffuser. Like opaque solexx placed 3 inches away from the LED COBS?

My Simple DIY Vero 29 Veg to Grow

Been busy, I moved 7 plants under a six light array. They have been under 12x12 for about 40 days. We are not exactly pro indoor growers here, this is my second grow ever, first indoor, and my girlfriends (she is the plant person in charge for the most part I just build the stuff) It is maybe...
