2 minute cheap & easy carbon filter (no duct tape)

So after going out shopping, I've had problems finding an air filter. It seems most of them don't have the added plastic piece used to clamp the ducting to it. For example, all the Fram air filters I saw in stores that had the cone shape were completely flat on the other end (no place to clamp on the ducting). I've found some, but they're high performance air intakes and cost 50$+...

Can you recommend an air filter for me. Im using a 6 inch inline duct fan, so ill need one that can clap to a 6 inch or maybe 4 if i get a reducer.

Can always do what I did. I just put a 6in to 4in converter onto end of fan, then put filter up to the end of the 4in, and taped it on there nice and tight. Ghetto but got the job done.

air filter 22 bucks from advanced auto parts
active carbon 12 bucks from petco

thats how much it cost me. Seems to work well so far, but I'm only 8 days into flowering. I only used about half the carbon I bought too.

I am using a similar fan now and haven't noticed any problems. Plus at 25$ a pop, I'm willing to experiment. I also have the filter on the exhaust side of the fan, rather than the intake.

Hmmmm......I can't seem to find any stores local to me that sell activated carbon in bags like that...

However, they do sell carbon pads, used for filtering.

If I was to put these 4 carbon pads into a car air filter, you think it'd do the same as the activated carbon pieces?

Do you not run a filter on the intake at all? do you get odor escape through the intake? And are you running your fans 24/7?

That is a really sweet idea and will be trying it on my stealth grow cab with a 150w hps and 4 plants. Will let ya know how it goes.

Soz for the lack of replies but been off the forum for a couple of years. Can't believe this thread is still active.

To answer most people. I grew 4 plants and ran the fans almost 24/7 but switched them off for 30 min a day to give it a break.

I ran the fan with no intake filter.

go to any pet store that sells fish tank filter cartridges!..there loaded with carbon! :D

ive seen a bunch of DIY carbon filters and this one has got to be one of the good ones thats easy to do. nice job
