So I was using a 2.8L “3qt” pot and adding 1 gallon of water so how much water is used for a 3 gallon smart pot?!?

Well you won't know that number til you first water pot. Amount on nutes is per liter or gal. Once you feed youll know exactly how much you'll need to mix next time. Start with a gal and if you need more mix another batch mix at a gal or liter.

I do a soilless mix in 3 gal fabric and a gallon gets me a small amount of runoff.
I imagine something like coco would need less. Really medium dependent

I understand that but there has to be a precise number so I can add the correct amount of nutrients to the water
That's the wrong approach. In a three gallon pot, smaller plants may require 1.5-2 gallons of mixture. My plants that I've vegged for 4-8 weeks require right around a gallon before I get runoff.

The plants will tell you what they need, not the other way around.

If you have to, mix more than what you need (by the Litre or by the gallon but stay consistent), then save the rest for the next watering. Use it at the next feeding though, as mixed nutrients stored for too long can precipitate, causing the nutrients to fall out of suspension and therefore won't be available to the plant for uptake. Or you can just dump the excess down the drain, on your outdoor garden, whatever.

Take a 3g pot fill with same dirt, measure amount of water needed til runoff, that's your number for potted plant to mix nutes...roughly :bigjoint:

It kinda depends on the strain, the medium, the heat from lighting, the humidity level, the air movement, and the stage of growth as well. There is no one right answer. I use living soil, 5 gallon smart pots, and in veg I was giving them each about 3/4 gallon every 3 days, but in late flower they were getting 1 gallon or more every 2-3 days. The plant will tell you. Start slow and build up to what they need. It only takes a few waterings to figure it out. Keep a log to reference for the pattern that works for the situation. Next grow will likely be different anyway.

You must of been getting more runoff than what stayed in the pot unless your mix was 10 times as dense as mine.
What kind of dirt are you using?
1 gallon of water in a 3 gallon pot, with an established plant, is 2 or so days between waterings. Temps being reasonable
I’m using happy frog medium
I was watering it every 3/4 days 6.5 hp with nutrients

Happy frog is good stuff. Guess you are getting a ton of runoff then.
A 3 qt pot should take a qt or so of water to get runoff.
