Hey guys, so im currently trying to decide bewteen a window unit or portal a/c unit, let me start by saying this isnt necessarily for a grow.. i do have a tent in the room but that is not even the primary reason im doing this, id just like to sleep without sweating this summer.
So heres the deal, the room is a garage thats been converted into a bedroom, there is a vent from the houses central a/c coming into the room, however the people living in the main space of the house prefer to keep windows open and not run the a/c as long as outdoor temps are below 80 (and that means right up to 80, even @79 they will not turn ac on), this hasnt been an issue during the cooler months but now its starting to heat up and this is a problem for me because i prefer my ambient temp to be about 70, both for the plants sake and my own.
The only windows available are windows that go into the rest of the home- not to the outdoors, one of the windows connects to the dining/living room so thats out of the question, but the other window goes into the laundry room, so thats the window that will get used, i can either put a window unit in the bedroom window or i can run a portable a/c plumbed to exhaust out that window, the laundry room has another window that does go outside and has an electric fan in that window that exhausts it constantly so im not worried about heat building up in there, i guess my biggest concern with a window unis is the condensate line, id probly just have to put a bucket under it to catch the condensate since theres no where easily accessible to plumb it out, and i would prefer the window unit as it wont take up valuable floor space and they are far more efficient that portable units as well as cheaper too.
anyone ever done this, any suggestions? before someone else says it i would love to go with a mini-split unit but im just trying to cool a 14x14 room so im not looking for a 20k btu unit or to spend more than a couple hundred bucks, at the absolute max i only need a 8k btu unit but could get away with a 6k even
