6 weeks 6 days. Thinking more about bud size I did do a whole bunch of topping and super cropping trying to fill in the trellis before flip. Following colas back to see which were topped you can see the size difference between ones that weren’t. The canopy is definitely too full. I’ll be going back to growing plants with 8 or so mains and keeping them more open.
Gnats are in check with the sand back. Still get a few fliers here and there.
Some edges of leaves are showing burns. At first I thought it was light related but it doesn’t seem so as it’s also showing where lights are not as strong. Also seems to be more on one plant then the others. Could be too much food as I’m pretty heavy with it.
Over all they look good. Obviously this strain is a quick finisher with the amount of brown I’m seeing. Smell is strong exhaust fans are on full and my wife hasn’t said anything yet. Lol. Maybe she’s just getting use to it.

The cold has won. -7c last night so about -2 under my patio. Tomatoes are done. Harvested most of the fruits off. Will start taking down all the green. SIPs performed flawlessly with little top dressing and just adding water. Will do more next year. 8D3A2515-22E3-4B47-9BA8-8E9C43C16CAB.jpeg30AE02B9-3116-443F-B320-0714A8816635.jpeg5EDF6A32-A687-4345-8E09-C3AAA6352DF3.jpeg14900E17-DBC1-410D-A9FE-093FE8700262.jpeg

Happy Sunday everyone. Hope everyone gets some time in their grow rooms today.
The clones I planted awhile back are still in solos. Took some clones from them. Will keep the originals for a bit yet seeing how long they can stay in there.
I keep the dome vents open a crack I don’t spray anything.you can see just a little humidity on the dome. I won’t open the dome until I see the color of the rockwool go lighter. Usually 7 or so days.
Plants for next round got a top dress of EWC and 1 tbls Gaia 444.

Day 53 in the flower room.Top watered in some Epsom today. Plants growing quite well even with the early onset of brown pistols.
Any thoughts on why the edges /tips of leaves have yellowed? I notice more so closer to lights. Could be light burn maybe? I have 3 strains in the room. Only the one is showing this. One plant as a test I have given more top dress to. It appears to have more. Nute burn mixed with light burn maybe? Google shows K deficiency as a similar look so not convinced either way. Another Sunday rolls around. Day 60 today. Smelling up that’s for sure.
Clones are rooted so culled the solo cups I had clones from. Seems to save space. Veg room light was turned up. Will be harvesting in 10 days or so.
some shots. You can see the yellowing and a hint of red coming in.Normally would have fed them but this time will just let it ride. Sips are a bitch to carry out when the soil is so wet so not gonna water after Wednesday so see how long they can go without filling the res.66CC70F6-C2A1-4FD5-9C81-FFC1891CB46C.jpeg5C506E3D-5784-4220-9F54-188DE8F4B451.jpeg67F22CFF-4DEC-4A19-85F4-9438F3E11B76.jpegC26FCAC6-0A5F-4036-8524-4323C17E869F.jpeg00092224-3499-4491-8382-FB2E6E8070DD.jpeg62BA8C22-43E0-4E75-8594-AA3100BC71E2.jpeg

Not sure if anyone suggested it for your gnats but for up keep and going with a living soil approach, just need to do the following.
Nematodes
and
Cover crop.

Plant the cover crop and water in the nematodes. once the cover crop is 3-4 inches tall, mow it back to 2 inches. Rinse and repeat. This will also provide a fast break down nutrients to your soil. Makes sure all cuttings stay in the pot. Reduce the amount of compost you top dress with. Reduce the amount of nutrients your top dress with. The clover is to create a suitable environment for the nematodes to proliferate. See everyone always wants to focus on bacteria and fungi. Need to have thse nematodes consuming the larva of the gnats. Any time you see someone with gnats you should know automatically that their soil life is not at peak. Why not? In this case not enough organic material breaking down to get them up and going. Your need to give the predators of gnats a good home.

For years "neem" was used for gnats. Cootz mixes typically had need and Karanja for this as well. You could also do Gnatrol. I hate the sand and DE ones. DE cause it kills everything. And sand cause of its weight. The sand works it way down, you add more sand to fight the gnats, it works down before long you got a shit load of sand in you medium.

Finally for a quick gnat trap in a small glass, fill half way with hot water, add a table spoon of sugar, 2 tbs of apple cider vinegar, and 2 drops of dawn dishsoap. Light stir and put in room, Top up with water every other day. I keep one of these in my tents when i make fresh batch of soil and bio life isnt up to speed yet.

Happy Halloween!!
The time has come, chopped everything down. Getting the room cleaned sips refilled etc. Didn’t take many pics but everything looked great. Happy with the Mars lights just needed more heat. My average room temp was low around 70-75f with 40-50 %RH. Will add HPS this round to up my leaf surface temp.
Looking forward to next round with new strains. 3511E0F9-68E2-4E68-BAE2-B1315C788179.jpeg332C139D-2645-4CB8-A278-5490771493A5.jpegSoil dumped ,stems removed and some more food added.
This time I added 2 cups kelp one cup alfalfa one cup frass and one cup Gaia 444. I made a big batch of this and added one cup per 5 gallon of soil. A little perlite and some compost to top it off. New sips get soil from last round it’s been used 2 times so this will be number 3. It was amended with a lot of 444 and bloom 284 with some compost. Will see how it does. Will update again once turn around is complete. Happy growing. 41A928FF-F7A3-4E5D-BA70-22C693C786C0.jpeg79B38C1D-3317-4318-8267-83AB1A619BFD.jpeg

Room cleaned and reset. Takes a bit of work but not too bad. Going with new strains this round and back to individual trellises. Seams easier to be able to move them around and trim. Not going for the 40 cola plants this time will keep them open for better light penetration.
Have the MH running at 250w along with the Mars lights. Temp sure climbs may do the MH on a separate timer don’t think it needs to be on 18 hrs.
Plants look healthy for not really caring for them in the veg room. Organic soil seems to take care of itself.

I had a few 5" hydro net pots laying around so thats what I used as a wick.Totes are 10g HDX. Supports or risers are 4" plastic pipe cut to the same height as net pot. Water capacity is about 2 gallons .mar 3 006.JPGmay 1 022.JPGsip 022.JPGmar 3 007.JPGPics will do the rest. Last 2 pics are a 27g sip with 2 wicks.

Lots of other ways to make them and work equally well. Perfect watering is 90% of it, all I do is add some food and keep the res full.
Also have a look at the pdf on the first page here https://www.rollitup.org/t/sip-thread-sub-irrigated-planter.904886/

So one week since transplant. Humidity was way down so fired up a couple airstones in pails. Seems to help. RH jumped up 15%.
Added in nematodes to help with the gnats. I guess I’ll know in a few days if they work. Soil was covered in sand for the last month so not many fliers. Hate to go back to sand.
Top dressed with ewc and some Gaia today. Will build more trellis soon and get things in their final local.
Will probably flip the light in a week.
Temp stays at 75 on the leaves. Without the MH running so saving some watts. Vent fan is running at lowest speed.682A06BD-4FC6-419F-B184-CEBDD5A6AA5A.jpeg2BFEAA29-D98C-4D9F-8E6C-256FF72C2988.jpegAC822F5B-FBAB-4CE4-9DC6-D826F717DC01.jpeg

So 10 days of veg plants are getting use to the lights. I think I had them too close for a bit. Will be flipping this weekend.
Trying my hand at vertical growing on one end of my room. Hung my trellis on the wall. C0A57D15-EBC7-4BB7-9D08-90AC24B3EDD4.jpeg

Hey all, I thought I would start a thread about organic sips. I’m a RDWC old timer and have made the move to organic sips.Perhaps some of you have seen my previous posts in the Sip thread.
I wanted a place where I could put my updates for future reference so here it is.
I run a home made soil that’s as simple as I could find. I buy what’s locally available and try to not spend much on my grows. I start with sphagnum peat ,compost and perlight. 40/20/40. I add 3 cups of food and 4 cups minerals per cu.ft. Food is generally one cup kelp one alfalfa and one Gaia 444. One cup dolomite lime to round off my mix. I let cook for 1 month minimum.
I’m now in my second cycle with my soil. I amend with a cup of Gaia 444 per 5 gallon after ea round. So far.
My SIPs are home made from HD totes. 10g/45L 5”hydro net pot per tote. Wick is same soil. They hold about 2 gallons of water with a 4”(same height as net pot) riser/support.
I run clones of various strains.
My lights are new to me as I’m a HPS guy. I have some Mars sp in both veg and flower. Working out well ,pretty darn powerful and give off just enough heat to keep the leaves warm.I have the veg room dimmed down to slow growth. So onto some pics. Veg room is small I usually just keep cloning as plants get bigger to maximize space. I normally put clones in solos then into 2g pots before they go into sips. I’ll keep updating, right now I’m in week 3 flower and various stages of clones. Haven’t picked yet what I’m running next run but I will soon.
