Aerogarden going great...Got some good questions though

That fine its so small it will get to the roots fine. Just a fyi when you use the figure 8 cord going to the lamp lights, setup your timer to 12/12 hours, however keep the AG on at all times, and leave the air stone running at all times. This is what I would suggest. So the lights work 12/12 but AG and air stone is on all the time.

What is so small that it will get to the roots?

Also, to clarify, you would suggest leaving the air stone and the AG pump running at all times, while the lights go off for 12 hours...is that right?

Hey Fox...Couple question for ya.

1. My airstone will not fit all the way across the bottom of the res. Is it ok? Will the plants off to the side of the upward flow of the bubbles still benefit from having an airstone in the water?

2. I am confused on the flowering process. Some people say I can flower whenever I want. Others say the plant should be a certain age and height. What do you think. What is a good indicator that your plants are ready to be taken into flowering...

3. I am thinking that now that I can moniter Ph, and have the airstone running, it might be a good idea to take the plants from 16 hours of light to 20 or 24 hours of light to get them bigger. Howerver someone told me that if I switch to 12/12 the plants will triple in size. So i guess my question is: If I want my plants to get bigger faster, should I give them more (20 hrs) or less (12 Hrs) of light?

Thanks for the help.
they only show sex when there in a certain light cycle
Hey Sicc, Can u help?
I know they only show sex when they are in a certain light, but when is the right time to give them that light...? Also I have these questions too...

yes, but not as much. You might wanna try using several of the small "bubble-stone" airstones, they are small and versatile and moveable.

When you flower, they triple in size as they grow. So when theyre 1/3 the size you want them to be, then flower.
Most plants have a 8 week vegetation time, which is the recommended/minimum time to Veg them out before you flower.

Howerver someone told me that if I switch to 12/12 the plants will triple in size.
12/12 = flowering. When you flower, you switch to 12/12 to simulate a change in seasons, and the plant begins to bloom and get bigger.

it might be a good idea to take the plants from 16 hours of light to 20 or 24 hours of light to get them bigger.
Plants need dark-time to grow roots, and more roots can support bigger plants. After the initial first couple weeks of 20-24hr light, they need 18/6 or 16/8 to develop both roots and leaves

Keep the AIRSTONES at 100%, but turn off the AG pump once your plants have established roots in the reservoir. The AG pump only guides the roots down, you dont need it after that. If you keep it on, it may over-hydrate the growsponges and rootbase, leading to root-rot...

The airstones just provide Oxygen to the water, which is crucial. They need to be 24/7/365

1) Like leova said, use several smaller stones to get them to fit. I used (3) 5" stones.

2)There really isn't a standard on how long to veg them. Some say they are mature enough to flower when the branches stop growing immediately across from each other and start alternating. This can be confusing because alternating branches can also be caused by stress. (experienced it first hand)

I flowered at five weeks my first grow and four weeks my second, with no adverse effects. If you wanna wait longer, use topping, fimming and LST to keep your plant at a reasonable height.

3)The common misinformation around forums is that plants require darkness for roots to grow. This is, of course, false. How else would plants grow on 24/0? This being said, I will explain with more detail.

During the day hours, plants will be growing along with taking in sunlight, nutrients and water. Since the plant is doing both at once, energy must be diverted to both, thus decreasing the efficiency of growth. During dark periods, the plant is no longer taking up nutrients and sunlight. This allows for a greater efficiency in growth during the dark period, since no energy is being diverted elsewhere.

More or less, it's not going to make a huge difference on growth if you switch from 16/8 to 20/4. The only real difference you're going to see is a longer transition to flower from 20/4. I recommend 18/6 as a standard for all veg.

Thanks Fox. You also have replied consistently to my questions quickly with great information. I am sure I have you to thank for my healthy plants. Thanks!

Also, How big should a plant grown in an aerogarden be that is 4-5 weeks tall? How about 8 weeks? On average of course...

All depends on the grower, really. The less stress you put them through, the better they will perform.

Of course, the strain will play a role.

By the way, all this information was obtained through extensive research. I put in about two hours a day. It was about six hours a day a few months ago.

Wouldnt doubt it for a second.

I know everyones plant sizes will be different....I just think mine might be on the small side...but thats normal for an aerogrow right?

Like I said, depends on the grower. As your skills increase, so will your plants health. Can't really say how big they will get or how big they should be unless there is something seriously wrong.

lol, all my info comes from guys like Fox, Sicc, and MrAlex :)

I'm just a newbie too, albeit one that learns quickly :D

Yes that is right and it will get to the roots fine.

I would suggest against leaving the AG water pump running. Once the roots have become well established in the res, the AG water pump is no longer needed. Leaving it running will only promote stem rot and mold.

This is quite separate from the air stones. Those should be left running 24/7.

to tell yall the truth, you dont even need the AG pump at all lol

i mean yea im sure it helps, but its really unnecessary, the mist effect from the bubble's popping from the air stones is enough to lure the root's down into the water.
