Automated Bud Curing Setup

Hi everyone, I travel alot so i am always looking for solutions to be able to maintain my grow/harvest from my phone. I had an idea for a way to burp my freshly harvested bud without being there. Here is my idea, do you think it will work?

Drill 2 holes in my mason jar lids and add a rubber collar grommet in each. In one hole, add an airlock, like what is used in beer making. In the other grommet insert a 1/4" tube that is connected to the air pump I use for DWC. My air pump has 4 outlets so I could hook up 4 mason jars at a time.

I would then put a boveda butler into one of the jars so I can monitor the humidity levels from my phone. When they get high, I can turn a smart outlet on from my phone which would activate the pump and force air into the jars while bleeding old air out of the airlock. I could also plug the air pump into a timer as well.

Is there anything I'm missing? What would make this not work?

You need to dry your bud first.

You’re going to come back to some nice mold samples. How hard is it to dry bud and put it in a jar?

people make this more work than it needs to be.

Obviously it would be dried and trimmed before going into the jars. This is for the curing, not drying.

You stated freshly harvested bud, which is normally pretty wet
My bad, I definitely wrote that wrong. Everything will be hung up to dry before going into the jars.

I would like to cure for 6-8 weeks but normally have to travel every 3-5 weeks and can't normally be around to burp my jars.

Good on you for the concept! Only thing I'd look at is maybe adapting an inline desiccant dryer/filter (used when car painting) to your air pump supply? The longer an air pump runs, heat and moisture are added to the air supply.

An automatic bud curer would be awesome.

That is a great thought and definitely something to keep an eye on while I'm testing it I am thinking I should only need the pump to run about 15 mins/day or less. It shouldn't take much to fully cycle the air out so hopefully the heat shouldn't effect it too much. Im thinking I will put boveda packs in the jars as well to help balance the humidity.

I literally don’t cure at all, I dry my bud until it’s dry enough to jar then store it. I just opened a year old jar last week and buds are still sticky when ground up.

Very good idea I like it I'm thinking of doing the same ! I wanted to add one thing for the air hose going in to the jar I would run that to the bottom and let the air Force the bottom up , is that what you are thinking?

Exactly! I'm also debating running the air out of the jars through a carbon filter I'm going to make out of some PVC and activated charcoal to cut down on

I realize most of this isn't necessary at all, but I get bored and like to tinker around with things lol

Ya if u need to cut the smell down for safety reasons I can see that being something to try but no your right for sure not necessary lol

You should see my garage right now I'm finally building my final build for my root Chambers I made some prototypes and now I'm making the final version just the way I want it !

What you created is cool from a DIY perspective, but it's unnecessary. When you burp you're releasing excessive moisture, but that's what the Bovedas do. By burping you're throwing off the humidity level and causing the packs to reset their balance each time.
