BLUE CHESEEEEEEEE...1st Grow

Ok so this is my first grow but I would not necessarily call myself a total noob as I have been doing lots of research over the past month.

My Setup:

Veg and Mommy box with a 250 watt mh. Picture below.
Grow Tent with ebb and flow and a 400 watt hps for flowering.


I started germinating 2 seeds a few days ago and found that they were being stubborn so I gently cracked them open near the tip with the dull side of a scalpel. Its only been about 8 hours since I did this and the taproot is already becoming visible on both. When the taproot becomes more pronounced I'm going to plant the little guys in 6in pots with Black Gold Seedling Mix soil from my local hydro store. These will be my moms and I will be taking clones from them and putting those in my aerogarden which will be in the box as well. I have the full line of Technaflora nutrients which I hope will work well. I have not yet purchased my 400 watt hps or the tent yet as I know I have some time before I need them. As for odor I was thinking about getting a ozone machine or making my own carbon filter. I WILL UPDATE MY GROW DAILY so be sure to check back often and post any suggestions/thoughts/ etc.

Sweet, looks like you know what you are doing. Nice job on cracking that seed by yourself. I didn't think of that one.

If you are getting a tent in there be careful, it is going to get hot in there if you are not careful. If you ge a tent make sure to get the ductwork and the blowerfan to get the heat out the window.

What kind of tent are you going to get? I have the HydroHut but I have been hearing that there are a couple one that are a lot better. The Jardin Darkroom secret Garden has like reflective walls and you can hook up your duct to it. My hydrohut did not come with any of the flangues. I even asked at the store and the guy said it had them. I would have bought one, I didn;t care. BEWARE. Even the SunHut has all the peices. It is just like the HH but more complete. Get the Jardin if you can. It is not as available and the sizes are different but check it out.

Good luck with everything. I am really wanting to see with this strain can do. I think these may be my next seeds to get.

As for the grow tent its not going to be in the closet itself rather in the corner of the main room next to the window for easy venting. Ive been looking at this one...

cool, that is just like the one I got but yours is a foot smaller on each side. That is good that you are getting all the parts with it. It was a pain getting it back home and not having everything, pretty much made it usless without all the peices.

I am telling you thoug you are probably going to need extra cooling of some sort unless maybe you had all the flaps all the way open and like a cool breeze blowing on it, and still. I know with my 600 watter, air cool the light through the hood with a 6inch vortex fan an I still have to run an air conditioner on the plants during the day. Durning the night it is fine but it is still 85 with is on the high side of ok.

in one side and out the other side. You have to have 2 6inch ducts to do this or maybe get one of these converters but that may slow down your air flow.

Like I said, even with that, I still have to run the a/c when the sun it up. Light runs mostly at night so the air is very cool that is being blown across it.

Ahh I see the climate here is rather cool so i don't think it will be too bad. I will also have 2 fans in it.


How much was that light?

After manually cracking these little guys yesterday I have noticed that the taproot is coming out. Here is a picture below...do you think it needs to show more taproot before I plant into soil???

Its a 600watt HPS. I like this setup so far. Hasn't had as many problems as others. Good luck to you. If it is cool where you live you may be fine. Hit me up if you need any help. I am not pro but can stere you in the right direction!

I put some hydroton at the bottom of my pots to make it easier for water to drain.

What is the average amount of time for the little seeds to sprout above the surface? I have them about 1/2" down.

Looks very good.

The seed should pop up relatively fast. Maybe a day to three days on adverage. Sometimes you put them in there and they dont ever 'pop'. Meaning they have the tail like yours and all but for whatever reason they never surface. If it has been 3 days and no sign of sprout you may want to poke around in there and check it out a bit without disrupting it.

How do you like that Black Gold or is this your first time using it? My buddy offered my some bags for free and I passed on em of FFOF wondering if it was the right move or not.

I like how you put the clay pebbles on the bottom. I do that to. It is good to put them on the top too. Just like one layer but it will make it so you can see when there is salt build up and also give you more of an even water, it also doesn't leave holes as bad when you water if watering with a big container.

should i have my light on at all to motivate them to pop up? Its a 250 watt mh.

yoyogrow, NIce set-up man, I like the home made cabinet you made, same as the parts shelves that I have hundreds of and never even thought about using them for something like that. It looks like you just put cardboard on the sides with a reflective covering. Is that what you did ?? Does the light leak out of it anywhere ??? I would love some more pics of the shelving unit/room itself if at all possible. I can see it looks like you attached the sides to it with zipties or something similar. That would SO much easier to ventilate than my closet. Looks good man, I'll have to keep up with your grow.

Hey edux10, how noisy or loud is that vortex fan running to cool your lights ??? Can you hear it running if you are sitting in another parts of the house ??

Hey dirt give me a few minutes on the pictures I would be happy to show you.

The outer walls are made of foam board with a reflective side...$10 for a 4x8 sheet at home depot. I just zip-tied them onto the frame and duct taped all of the seams so no light/smell, etc would leak out. Here are some pictures.
