Yeah it seems you can make a storage solution with a pH4 buffer solution with a pinch of salt...would this be ok?

On a Blue lab or a Hannah multi meter. Once gone dry, your most likely going to be buying a new probe to make it work right again.

Found that this HM model pH -80 is the most durable pen ever used... She dried out for over a year. Soaked her for 14 hrs and recalibrated it. Shell move to .1 high and sit that way for over a month.

For the price, feel this is the best one out there short of a lab quality and over $400 per handheld unit.

So, if you have to get another probe for that Blue lab. Get the HM one instead, you'll save money over buying a new probe!

The Blue Lab pens are nice but the kicker is the probe isnt replaceable. You gotta buy a whole other pen. Alot of brands and models from Hannah..Oakton..Milwaukee..have pens where when (not if - they are finicky by nature) the glass bulb takes a shit..you can just buy that alone and pop it in. The Blue Lab pens...nope. I own the Blue Lab combo meter that has a seperate EC/TDS/Temp probe along with a replaceable pH probe. A little pricey compared to the pen but shes been hanging in there with me for quite awhile now.

HM makes some of the best units. I have an HM TDS pen in my veg room that has been with me for a very long time. Good piece of gear.

No matter the make. Proper storage and care is necessary for long term performance and accuracy. My Bluelab pen is over 3 years old and still going strong. Due to proper care and maintenance.
The Blue Lab pen I have is nearly 5 years old. I neglected my pen for over a year when I purchased a Blue Lab Multi meter. I re hydrated the pen, calibrated it and works great.

I use pH drops for backup but they are worthless if your nutrient solution has dyes or if you use black coffee like kelps and humic addys. I also keep a yellow cheapo pen for backup. Clean and calibrate the pH meters often. And store in kcl solution when your not using it. Best I can tell yall.

Stop using nutes with colorants in then.
I sometimes add liquid humic acid and kelp extract. They are not nutrients. Or very little nutrient. They are additives. And they are black. Color drops dont work for me. Btw..Hanna has a new meter out called the Groline. An all in one probe and all in one calibration satchet. Looks pretty kewl.
