Cannatrol vs. Freeze Dryer

Sorry for the bump but for anyone with a harvest right freeze dryer. I’m pretty sure I found my sweet spot for my tray setting of 55f, with a roughly 14hr dry cycle. The smell of your plants is almost unchanged from plucking it straight from the plant itself. I pulled my Gorilla Zkittlez yesterday at 13hrs for 1050g of weed but a few of my bigger colas were just a slight bit frozen moisture inside. I’ll admit they kept a slight hay smell and are still drying in a paper bag and will need too cure in their own jars. The ones that are done smelled like they came off the plant, and then 12hrs over night in a separate paper bag too reconstitute some moisture back into the buds. She is wonderfully happy, floaty walking feeling, give me the bass in my music and not bad for hunger

I hear you! I am in Thailand, and they do not ship here either. To this day, I'll never understand American companies that won't ship outside the USA.

You'll be glad to know of the company I use to export things from the USA to Thailand. They will ship to the UK also.

I get a small benefit from that link, FYI. But you'll get the greater benefit of being able to order from any US shop and then have MyUS reship it to you.

Clearly, you already built your own Cannatrol, which I could not be bothered to do, even though I knew it would be quite a saving. But in the future, if you want anything from the USA, MyUS is your go-to solution.

If he doesn't, I will. You can PM me if you need that info. My unit is about a week from arriving in Thailand.
I´m also in Thailand and thinking about getting one of these. once you receive yours, please share your experience of using it here. Also please let me know how much the duty and VAT amounted to.

Here is a $50 discount coupon I found online for Cannatrol. 50SMOT

As I loathe dealing with FedEx directly, I sometimes hire an external broker. FedEx (and UPS/DHL) can and will lie to the customer to delay the package, causing the box to accrue storage fees which is their little corruption. It never ends here, right?

As I needed the machine to clear customs and come to me immediately, rather than lurking around at FedEx for a week, in this case, I did hire my usual broker. So I paid marginally more not to have to lose my mind with FedEx and get it a few days quicker. The problem is the bud rot has taken nearly everything that i was going to put in it, literally in the last couple of days.

I paid 20,865 THB in total, of which
Tax 7,852 Thb
Vat 6,046 Thb

If you have a Thai partner, Thai staff, or a really strong constitution for ass-rape, then having FedEx clear it will be about 15-16k total to your door, but if you bring it in your name they will want your original passport for a week to register you with customs. Utter BS.

Send it to your Thai partner/staff name... so much simpler, but still an utter ball ache.

As for the shipping, Cannatrol doesn't ship to Thailand, so I used a reshipper in the US. I'll link them below, they are quite good. (but never pay them for the taxes, that's another way to get a headache).

Shipping was...... drumroll, please..... $105.48 from Cannatrols to Florida to my reshipper and another $800 (after a 20% discount for October) to get it from USA to Thailand. Ouch!

AND I had to send Cannatrol a wire transfer because my credit card was not from the USA, so they rejected it.

It's in the hands of Kerry now and arrives 16th.

I know all about the custom headache, Dealt with them too many times. even to the point of abandoning some packages. Worst ass rape so far was probably when i imported a pellet smoker...

Holy fuck, USD800 for shipping.... guess I will have to give this one a pass.
Was better when I had friends the US embassy. diplomatic mail, no headaches and no customs to deal with. and shipping cost was "local US rates"... those were the times....

Let me know how the units works out for you though.

I am considering the purchase of a harvest right or cannatrol cool cure.

Would love to hear from folks familiar with both/pros and cons of one over the other besides drying time.

TIA!

Although I have neither, I would deffo go for the harvest right, you can build a far cheaper (although less refined) cool cure for a fraction of the price.

with a harvest right you can use it for flowers and hash too.

I have a pharmaceutical harvest right.
It’s great for hash.
I have a thread up showing my results.
(Spoiler) It paid for itself in one run.

Both of the machines seem to be for small amounts of flower tho.

Would take a few runs to get any serious weight done.

And if growing very little hard to justify price

Fantastic mate! I dry my hash in my fridge, it’s good but still takes 3+days. Being able to cut such a huge time off the dry is gonna preserve a shit load of terps

Im not even sure about it taking less time. I just need the humidity control, im in a humid area and drying sucks i always dry too fast or too slow (and have made mold) so i settle and dry faster but lose the terps and generally miss my prime "pressing window" . Im hoping to preserve moisture and terps. I just ran an auto for funzies and really monitored the dry time and when i actually got it right, pressing it produced awesome results. Im hoping the cannatrol does just that but with a relatively hands off worry free approach.

Ah sorry I thought u meant you’d bought the freeze dryer! Yeah for sure mate! Good investment. The difference is night and day between my hung dried bud and my wine cooler dried bud so I would imagine with the software on the cannatrol you’ll be able to really slow down that process in a safe cool environment.

I hope so. Wondering if theres anything i can read up on it before hand. I have quite a bit coming up to chop. The freeze dryer seems nice but from what i have heard makes it too dry. Seems the beauty is in the programing compared to the harvest right

There are quite a few videos on YouTube, and a couple with the fellow who invented it. There is one on the Smotpoker channel, that he really goes into a lot of detail about it.
I've got one, and couldn't be happier with it. About to pull my 4th run out. I'm averaging 11.5 ounces dried per run. I used the "default" settings, and buds came out real nice. I have since played around with it, and found a setting that I really like. The beauty of it is set it & forget it, empty the drain tray a few times per cycle, and buds are ready for jars, grove bags, or final trimming once the cycle is done. You can also use it to store up to 4#'s of dried material in a controlled environment.
Side by side, same strain, 1 done the "conventional" way in my drying room on racks, and 1 done in the Cannatrol, the Cannatrol won hands down. My drying room is no slouch either, I spent quite a bit of time and money to try and keep it as controlled as you could, and things came out of it great, but the Cannatrol took things a definite step above.

Yeah i started watching his video then got distracted lol. If its not too complex of a question what is the default settings? I usually shoot for around 62rh and from what all those guys say that number is bogus. So im curious what and if there is a reccomended setting. I have a harvest coming up and im stoked is says delivery will be thursday but ill believe it when i see it on my porch. I just dont want to fuck up my first batch

The default settings are Temp-68 degrees and Dewpoint-54degrees (61% humidity) and those work really well. I did 2 batches at default settings, then started playing around. The last 2 batches, I ran at 64 degrees, and dew point 50 degrees (60% humidity) 4 day dry, 4 day cure, 2 days on "hold" then put it into 1OZ Grove bags and let them sit. I like the way it turned out a little better than default settings. Here is the Temp/RH chart that's in the back of the manual. For me, a little cooler seems to work better, and after the run, buds are just right, not too dry, not too wet, burns nice and tastes great.
The 1 mistake that I've seen most people make is with the sponge cup. People don't really read the manual and throw stuff in, hit start and wonder what it's for AFTER they have run the cycle. I did it too.
The manual states, after the 1st 24hrs, wet the sponge and put the cup on the bottom, it's there to keep the humidity balanced, and it does make a difference. I put it in after the 1st day, and then check it every couple of days. If it goes dry, an alarm will come up on the screen that says "add water".
I pack the trays with as much as will fit in 1 layer, making sure that there isn't any stacked on top of each other.
Some people will rotate their buds after the 2nd day because they don't like a flat spot. I personally don't care about it, it all grinds up the same.

Ahhhhh that chart clears up a lot. I understood the concept but the visual is nice. I see where lowering the temp play a role now. So if i understand clearly my house is at about 73 if i set the dewpoint at 59 i should be around 62 rh? Its going to be wild to see the press results being able to get it to just the right moisture level. Im really hoping to save some terps and improve my flower rosin.
