Well FWIW most Debian based versions of linux will let you run it live from the CD/DVD using RAM. That way you can try as many different distros as you like. I really enjoyed Mepis and the community back then had infinite patience in helping new users, without the typical RTFM attitude. Really not sure how current it is at the moment.

It can be useful to get access to a Windows drive and delete stubborn files or viruses. Ask questions and I will try to help you.

True, I just like puppy because of how it's packed with 'tools'. like a super lite version of knoppix style but still packed and quick. debian live still pretty basic in comparison and would need internet for apt-get etc.
I mainly use virtualbox for testing os's under the main debian installation.

Puppy is awesome, but for a first user it may be to basic. I sure remember borking my system time and again with apt-get. With a more turnkey system it is more streamlined and safer for beginners. Virtual box is another great way to run linux as a program within Windows, for testing it out. You definitely need lots of RAM for that, about 2G at least for each OS you want it to run.

You can do that using the Live CD's for Fedora as well and many other distros, you don't even have to burn a CD, you can create a bootable USB drive. I've found the entire linux community to be fairly kind.

Not only that, they fuck up half the shit in your file.

I tried to open a SS my account for wife before we signed up a couple months ago.
Some of the 'ID verification' questions were, who do you have a mortgage with that you opened in 2014 with 4 choices and who did you open a dept. store cc with in 2015? She has neither and SS fine print said they used Equifax. So we couldn't open online SS account.

Thanks, Equifax.

The craven fuckers: So I checked, "doesn't appear that you've been compromised", then "sign up for premium service and protection"
Someone opened a few credit card accounts in my name and after the charges were written off, I decided to keep the fraud alert active at the credit reporting agencies. This makes it extremely difficult for anyone to steal my identity and open new accounts.

I think it's time to take a look at Linux. My windows 10 system is slooooooow.
What's the best way to ramp up on Linux? Are there good tutorials describing how to customize the install?
Was getting the same on my laptop, was an upgrade to Win 10 and not a clean install. Got sick of stutters, putters and farts as it hiccuped its way through things so yesterday it was back up the important stuff and then the mofo got formatted and a clean install of Windows was done. As usual, the difference was VERY noticeable with the startup time cut in half.

Try it, could make all the difference.

Now I just have to decide whether to do the same with the Acer miniPC hooked up to the TV or whether to dump OpenSuse on instead. It's only used for Kodi, so if anyone has a suggestion for a better version of Linux to run Kodi I'm all ears.
