See but I don't pay attn to any of that and my buds are top notch, I notice no difference when doing all these things. This is my experience. I made this post for the newbies I was reading them buying all this fancy equipment and spending so much time on the perfect cure when the difference in my experience is very minimal.

I have read this entire thread now and I do agree there are some haters posting on it, but you have shown yourself to be a rather intelligent person.... Meaning you not only knew these peeps would post like that on this thread, but that you were actually hoping for some of it. You knew way ahead of time you are posting something controversial. So.... Why are you surprised now that you got the controversy you wanted?

I opened a ball jar with about 1/2 OZ that had been sealed for about a year. I had so much I never got around to smoking it. there is a strong sour smell to it. it's odd. nothing like the original odor. I can't decide if I want to smoke some of it or toss it.

I have done the same, I didn't care for it. I had some chem I let cure for a couple months, lost all the funk. Had a weird smooth smell afterwords. I'm telling you, the fresher my dry buds are, the better and more intense the favor and smell. Basically the opposit of what the hard core curing guys will tell you.

Not that anybody gives a shit but here are my observations over many years of growing, drying, and smoking weed. I use a standard7-10 days of air drying, then bottle up and slowly take it down to 62ish%. Lots of exceptions to my generalizations, but generally:
I don't think any dry or cure method increases potency from the time it was harvested. Potency can be degraded, but not improved upon.
Some strains perfectly dried treated just always taste and smell kinda funky, but it can be kick ass weed.
Sample buds cut off a plant and quick dried in a couple hours will get you as high as a full long cure but it is usually harsh and unpleasant tasting.
Buds air dried and jarred, often initially smell grassy in the jar. But smell wonderful once ground up for smoke.
The longer they are jarred up, the better they smell in the jar, and the smoother the smoke gets.
If you take care not to manhandle the buds and treat them gently in the jar, they often do not have that strain's characteristic smell, or a very potent smell. You want to impress someone roll them around a bit and stick them in your pocket in a baggie. Crush some trics and the smell comes out.
I baby my buds and only rate aroma after it's been ground. Mine sometimes smells "just OK" in the jar, but super aromatic the second it is ground.
At about 6 months it's as good as it gets as far as jar smell, smoothness and taste/aroma.
Anyway these are just my general observations.

Hmmm, I was under the impression that when Mj is Ripe, and harvested. A higher % of THC-A is present than any other cannabinoid. THC-A has little psychoactive effects. As MJ starts to dry, the THC-A starts to breakdown into THC. While Mj cures, some THC breakdowns into CBD and CBN plus about 63 others. Aside from medical views on these two cannabinoids (not mentioning all the other cannabinoids) they basically modify the high of THC, and are actually the properties that most people seek in a strain; "this weed makes me sleepy, This get's up and going, This is way heavy in the body, this is a super mind fuck". blah blah blah.
It's just science. What were you saying...?

Curing does not effect potency and any form of decarbing is simply degradation as its decarbed upon vaporizing....
Thc also does not breakdown to cbd or cbn...in small amounts some is oxidized to cbn..but majority becomes delta 8
Cbn increases with storage as a metabolic/enzyme process..this is apparent in storage in freezing condition as cbn rises disproportionately with thc degradation
Thc does not break down into other terpenes like myrcene altering the high like you are suggesting
I think its important to understand what compound is giving the particular aroma or flavor you desire in your product..the berry flavors for example are light esters that have a lower boiling point than a heavy sequiterpene

Everyone here knows how I conduct a chop and it turns out to be very contraversial. Drying it is just a matter of knowing when to sweat it and how long to leave it out after it has been initially dried. I agree with buddy, for long term storage dryer is best.

I think there is a difference in looks, smell, texture, and taste after even two weeks of curing, I notice a bigger different in a month plus. Potency even seems slightly higher.
