Defoliation Experiment - Side by Side Sister Clones

I'd just like to see it actually done, and forego all the stupid bitching and immature bullshit.

Pinch one and don't pinch the other, but at least DO IT! all this fucking talk isn't doing anythng but allowing me to store up lots of one liners to use against other people i have no respect for.

an experment like this can take into account to many variables, and the results will take in those wide variables and display widely variable results.

Totally agree, it's amazing how many people believe they know all about it when they've never actually tried it!

I think all the plants should be treated equally in regards to variables, the only difference should be the defoliation. I think the experiment would have been better if there had been 4 defoliated under one light, and another 4 untouched under the other as this way they will all be treated equally and receive the same light. There is no such thing as the perfect experiment but this one is a start, and the experiment needs to be done by more than one person and in all different growing scenarios.

There is a bit of a joke thread about defoliation been started by Catofcuriosity, so hopefully the comedians will stay in that thread and allow this one to continue without interruption.

All i have to say is..... Plants all have their space requirements, given the strength of the sunlight and its ability to penetrate plants at all of it's levels... With even light distribution through out the entirety of the plant, no leaf on a singular plant would be able to neccesarily block out the sun from below growth.

however, indoors, this is not true, as light is uneven, at best, in its distribution to the lower levels of the plant, due to various reqsons, such as leaf blockage, and strength of the light being able to penetrate the canopy to the lower growth.

pulling off vegetation matter is a game robbing peter to pay paul.... Pulling off a "blocking" leaf MAY result in positive results, or MAY NOT.

If the time taken to recover from inducing stress yields a more "filled" weighted bud grown indoors, then is it worth it in the end? The obvious answer is that patience pays, however, what if all that time is taken and the plant never prouces what you expect? Then its all a waste...

In the end it seems like a crap shoot and VERY variety dependant. A heavy growing indica/sativa viney f1 from seed, for example, may he more inclined to give better results than a non branching short squat fat indica..

i could go on all day about this, in the end its up to each person, as it is their grow, their money their time and their experience.

Smoke a joint, relax. its just a plant and theres lots of seed. Do what YOU think is best.

Ohhby the way!! This made me think of something as well..... Anyone remember that guy selling the phototron? A friend of mine got one of these things, they had him pulling leaves off that had leaf petioles that were longer than 3 inches.

I never got to see the very end results, but, it seemingly looked legit...

But looking legit and being legit are two different thngs.

Thank you for informing me, i ALWAYS wondered what the end results were on that thing.
lol, three u shaped t12's. not the greatest thing in the world unless you're growing sage or thyme or something. it's a cool little contraption though, i had fun with it. I was just talking to someone last week about bringing it back out, maybe modifying it a little...

Cut a hole in the top, and put a 150w hps... Or even LED's.
i was thinking about adding three small led panels and an exhaust fan. i tried this thing half assedly a few times, and never really cared about the results, focusing mainly on the hid room. it's not big enough to do anything but one clone, 12/12 from the get-go...

We get you, it's not very efficient. That's ok though because I hate polar bears with a passion, and I have plenty of money so that's not a concern.

If I was concerned about the amount of electricity i'll be using then i'll get some solar panels fitted to my house!

Come on, some one had to mention solar panels in a thread about defoliation!!!

Is there enough room Prof Terpen to have both? Plants with more light to lowers and plants with light to upper canopy? Or does it have to be one way or the other?

Without knowing how long the veg time is or how many defoliation's there will be, it's hard to predict what will happen. With a 6 week veg with 2 defoliation's then the defoliated plants shouldn't be too much taller than the untouched plant.

I know people think that when you remove the leaves it slows down or stunts the growth, but this is just not true.

I don't think so either. It's just an educated guess but if you reduce a plants ability to make food it stands to reason it would be quick to make new leaves to replace the lost ones.
