my friend just chooses fewer plants and lets them get bigger so they yield huge
You're preaching to the choir when it comes to that.

You also have the option of a twelve unit ebb flow situation where each plant has its own pot. They get pretty huge in that type of system too. I guess you can do a multi-plant dwc, but I think the ebb flow bucket system would be less of a hassle.

hey girl figured i would chime in with you being hot and a grower! lol. i dont understand why you want so much lighting?? im not a flood and drain grower but your plants dont look healthy at all. some people might want to tell you how great they are with you being all hot and blond but sorry. For a beginner you are doing fine. first off your hood looks to be way too small. anyways you can get a bigger hood?? Growing takes time and lots of time.

With less wattage you have less of a chance of drying out and burning your girls. I think going dwc is going to give you better results but honestly you need to dial in your environment first. changing systems before getting your environment dialed in should be secondary imo. dont add anymore lights until you can grow green, healthy full plants. lots of people start with this thought of "man im going to grow sooo mucch weed and make all this $$$". but reality is that growing is difficult. you will need to spend 100's of hours researching and implementing new techniques.

Honestly i wouldnt take any of your girls into flower. i would kill off all the smaller girls and start over. The larger ones you could cut up and practice cloning with. Spider mites are a nightmare if you get them. You have to isolate all clones when you get them for at least 1 week. Each clone needs to be dipped or sprayed with some kind of mite killer. i grow from seed but still i spray all my girls every 30-45 days with azamax as a preventive maintenance.

you have to look at growing as a scientist or biologist would. just growing some plants and flowering them you will have very low grade bud that i really wouldnt want you to smoke. i know this sucks but its the truth. if you dont hate me then i would love to help you improve your environment lol!

That does look like kinda a small hood and all ... fer a 1000watt
But with a thousand your pentration should be deep enuff to penetrate at least 5 ft of growth....

As you already know skywalker is one of the lankiest plants to grow... im sure next grow we can get u nice phatter leaves and smaller plants... but great job for a first grow ...

say hello to the bad guy! lol
somebody's gotta do it. And you did the bad guy thing very nicely I might add. You're the nice bad guy. Lol.

Edit:

Hunny Bunny Mensabarbie,

It was a rough start but you improved their health considerably. But most important is the knowledge you gained. They're not gonna be finished in time for Thanksgiving, but just see what happens... you'll continue to learn from it until the very last moment. When you're ready to set up again for my clones, I'll def make it a point to come over sometime and help in any way I can. You'll start up good and proper this time and it'll be a brand new game.

I gotta say those cobwebs are freakin' me out a little. I had no idea that spider mites were actually spiders. Creepy. It's sorta appropriate for Halloween, but not good for a grow. But what's good about mis-haps is that they serve as valuable teaching moments. This spider mite attack should remind us that we need to work on enclosing your grow area, even if it's just with white plastic tarps, gaffer clips, and duct tape. Plants growing, even when there is no soil, generally tend to attract tiny animals simply because they're a biomass consisting of vegetation. Bugs love that shit. Bugs just love plants and will tend to find them even if they're growing inside your house. So enclose, enclose, enclose... not just to contain and focus lights, but to keep pests out.

Watch that Neem oil, it'll burn your leaves if you spray during light cycle... Unless you're using something other than the oil product.

I AM approaching this like a scientist. I actually have a degree in botany from UCR. I am just going through the motions this time to see what happens and get some experience. I have hooked up with a commercial grower who is going to guide me and provide his recipe from equipment to nutes to humidity and environment. In january I will make a significant investment in my personal grow and see just what kind of product I can produce. I know it isn't easy. I would like to point out that my girls are looking good now, nice and green, healthy and happy. posting pics next.

honestly, I sprayed them twice in 24 hours and the cobwebs disappeared. I will have a sealed air system for my next grow but these little spider mites do NOT scare me in the least. the insecticidal soap and neem spray seem to knock them RIGHT OUT

uy thing very nicely I might add. You're the nice bad guy. Lol.

for clones the skywalkers sure exhibited a variety of health. two were kind of mutants with smalle leaves that were discolored as if by chlorosis, one just took off towards the light by leaps and bounds and the others developed a rangy, trailing habit that I just took for typical of the strain. my Diablos were far weaker in general but more uniform. I'm left with two of the 6 clones and they were always darker green than the skywalkers and simply grew straight up, no rangy, trailing habit. I have my bubba kush left over from my first set of clones. she's short but showing signs of being healthy and happy. Next time I will try to keep the canopy more even. thanks for the kudos.

i started out with som much light because I had two 4x4' trays full of clones. some died or were taken out because they were just weak and pointless so I just put the 2nd light on them from the side since the tall skywalker is hogging the top light. I think it makes sense.
