I want to start by saying, "Excellent thread jj." I have been surfing around RIU for a little while now as I am getting prepped up for this coming season. I am however located up in eastern Washington and still waiting for the weather to become a bit friendlier for us. Your posts have been inspirational and given me some great ideas. I will have to custom fabricate one of my own as my area is a bit larger. This will be my first time outdoors, so any help would be appreciated. I was wondering a couple of things that I hope you wouldn't mind helping me out with. I have been reading through your past years posts to try and find the answers first before asking and seeing that I have just spent the last 4+ hrs reading through the threads, I fear it may take me that much more time at least to find the answers, so I hope you wouldn't mind shortening the time a little for me.
What nutrients do you add during the veg cycle? I saw the bloom mix, looked like just the bloom mix and Epsom salt but didn't see a veg mix. How often do you find yourself needing to feed nuts during veg and do you follow the suggested quantities or do you have a set amount that you have found works best to use per x amount of water? What is the rough distance you found works best between plants for growth in your set up? For now I think if you could answer those it would greatly help and in the mean time I will continue to surf through your 2010 and 11 posts.

Also, just in case you can answer before I find where it if posted, have you changed anything with your soil mix?

Thanks in advance for your help and all the great inspirational thoughts you have added to the community,

Howdy freeflow, I've spent a few years in E Wash myself. When I returned from Vietnam in 1970, I discharged out of Ft Lewis. I was having adjustment issues and didn't fit back into society well. I inherited enough money from my grandparents to buy some timbered land up on the Canadian border, above Curlew lake, Ferry County. 5 miles of 4x4 road to get there. I built a log cabin. Built everything by hand, no electricity. Cut the logs from the land. Lifted everything with block&Tackle, no power equipment, you can see the rigging in the pictures. But it was to harsh a life for my wife. So we moved to Seattle in the late 70's, so she could attend UW. I worked at Boeing for 9 years. Here's a few pics of the cabin.
Maxsea fertilizer has a veg & bloom. I use them both @1tbs per gl. The only thing I do differently with my soil is all winter I throw my chicken's poop on top, & I'll mix it in this spring.
As much space as you can get between plants the better, mine are actually too close. 10' would be perfect. Good luck.
P.S. I attended the first ever Seahawk game in the Kingdome!.....

Now that brings back some memories. My dad was a man of many skills and I think enjoyed employing us boys growing up. I recall one day he decided he wanted a 6 bay car port out back so he measured it up and out to the woods we went to cut down trees, skin them and next thing you know we were installing a log car port. Looks like that took you some time to build. Bet it was beautiful when done, I always have had an appreciation for log homes. Personally wouldn't want to own one as I am a painter and understand the maintenance involved with the upkeep of one. A tedious task but warm and inviting none the less. I recall growing up and going to the barter fair up around that area if not mistaken. I will take your advice and space them out a bit more, think I planned 6' but dont mind dropping 5 or 6 plants to give adequate room. Have an area planned of 130' x 35' roughly depending on what I would like the width at. Was thinking of building a frame system out of pvc that would attach to the fence I am putting around the perimeter. Fence will be 8' high so with the pvc attachment or carport shell would have clearing of about 16-20' in the middle. What was your opinion of the plastic you used last year? I noticed you decided to go with a different style this year, just trying to save on some of the expenses involved but don't want to cut corners where it could be a costly mistake.
Thanks for your advice, appreciate it

Hey svt, your welcome. We don't have a spring bbq planned yet, prob around 420.
That carport should work well, but if your in Socal, you won't need the plastic sides. I'd replace the sides with sunscreen mesh for better ventilation. I have tried many different top covers, & they all work. You might be able to used the top. Try 'Farmtek' This season I bought one of these pre-made replacement tops in clear, it looks to be well made but I haven't put it on yet. I'll post pics when I do...http://goldcountry.craigslist.org/fod/4339764569.html
Good luck

Whats up JJ do you have to have the BBQ right on 420:) its hempcon down here i'll catch you one of these times... Do you think the black shade cloth at home depot would work....also what do you think of this http://www.homedepot.com/p/ShelterLogic-Max-AP-10-ft-x-20-ft-White-All-Purpose-6-Leg-Canopy-25757/202934556?MERCH=REC-_-product-1-_-202295650-_-202934556-_-N and could I attach 3 of them together?
No, I think 420 is Easter this year. Maybe the weekend before or after.
Any of the carport frames should work. I've seen them ganged together, works great.
