Yes , I just went on the reverse engineering thread to see what I could find to replace it with. I use it my rez too although just a small 30 gallon one.

i went away from HTH because it interacts with the fulvic acid I am trying out in my setup. trying a product called flying skulls Z7 at the moment. fairly cheap to use: 1/2mL of each part (a and b) per gallon. it's an enzyme based res conditioner.

Sorry, I was talking about the Zone.
Enzymes from my experience can be pretty price to run them effectively.

i know you posted the ingredients of Zone but i still think there is chlorine/chloramine in it. that chlorine odor is my only evidence though so i don't have a firm case at all.
i think i read a long time ago that the copper sulfate slightly "killed" the roots outer layer which allowed the chlorine to be accessed/uptake more easily by the roots.
i only use 15 gals/ week so the price of this Z7 is minimal for me.
i hope dutchmaster responds to my inquiry

Yes Copper Sulfate is what is used in Spin-Out to prune roots as they hit the sides of the containers that where coated with it. Also used in algae control in lakes and ponds.

for some reason i also thought it was/used to be used in a chemical based tree stump remover. at higher percentages of course.

Are you using the 7 based on my recommendation? If so, I had mixed results towards the end. The product did alright, root zone was pythium free, but I've had better results using other methods since then. I think one part is enzyme, with the other part being a surfactant - like combining an enzyme product with SM-90? I could be wrong though.
Decent product. And customer service was prompt af the one time I hit them up.

quick follow up, chatted with DM customer service, they are relaunching their zone in a more concentrated formula that will be available directly through them in the next couple weeks. will be ordering asap and will check back to let ya know if results are same as ever.

Awesome to hear! I just bought the last DM gold zone 5 liter I could find, and I didn't want to fuck with anything else when this jug ran out. Now I'll just order right from the company. I've been using for 7 years, problem-free. Would have hated to fuck with success. Nice find, bro...

I use UC Roots - also a hypochlorous acid disinfectant. I'm using it in an RDWC and I'll swear by it. Clear Rez is the same too.

Yeah, I'm doing that too. But after rehabbing the plants back from major root disease, I'm just making sure. Maybe I don't need it, but I just don't want to chance it after the effort it took.

I went through the same and used hydroguard, I was very reluctant to give it up as well but was forced to ad it's not available here.
Been using Clear-Rez in leu of Zone for the past couple runs. It requires twice the dose if not more. Never tried pool shock, heard alot of horror stories. System is a ebb/flow Grodan Hugo setup with Supernatural Aqua nutes, GH PHup and down and importation of mildly mite invested 3king clones that were also treated with clearez. Have not had any pythium issues for many, many years when using Zone. Had a little round of spider mites so i performed a spraying every 3 days 7 times with a alternating regiment of advid and floramite. Hopefully this still works with mites. Years ago in the past i did it with Zone and had was guarded agianst pythium. With clearez 7% of the starts got pythium. Frustrated, so I looked up the status on DM website and noticed that Dutch Master Zone is now available through their website. Just orderd new 5gal size. See how fast the transaction occurs. Excited to get things back in a flourishing regiment. Will check with local stores for availability too. Clear-Res works ok but Zone really is much better product. I do the 2ml/gal dose of Zone with every res change and additional top offs. Will check that the dose is still the same.

Now that res is chilled the hydroguard was more for root development than root rot. I really am not convinced of its benifits but it did seem to promote a bigger root mass.
