Our cops are fucking STUPID.
The cops I've known aren't stupid. Some are thugs in police uniforms, this is true. Most are middle class workers in an incredibly badly managed working environment. They are doing a difficult job but the oversight is fucking awful. That shit wouldn't happen if it weren't tolerated. Our society is stupid for tolerating it.

I said I don't like the idea of a mass murderer living among us. I consider that a greater threat than a tax lien on my property.

Eh? I've always paid my taxes, so perhaps I'm speaking out of ignorance here, but I'm pretty certain that an IRS agent won't lop my head off if I fall behind on my taxes.

I said that I don't always agree with how my tax dollars are spent (ie waging war), but for the most part I feel that they fund necessary things like infrastructure, schools, social safety nets, etc. If I could send my tax payments in with a sticky note specifying what I want it spent on I would do that.

No Rob, I wouldn't consider someone a hero for killing 9 people over past due taxes. That's kind of a silly analogy.
LOL

Rob is an old man who posts on this site using a neighbor's lap top because his DIY off the grid solar system doesn't have enough power to operate one. He even keeps his beer in his neighbor's fridge. I bet his neighbor is happy Roy's typing away and not talking his garbage to him. He's probably more upset about the sandwich Roy cadged when he got his PBR. I put him on ignore a long time ago.

Well they aren't exactly smart either. I had heard of this before, but still wonder how wide spread the practice is.

A man whose bid to become a police officer was rejected after he scored too high on an intelligence test has lost an appeal in his federal lawsuit against the city.

The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York upheld a lower court’s decision that the city did not discriminate against Robert Jordan because the same standards were applied to everyone who took the test.

“This kind of puts an official face on discrimination in America against people of a certain class,” Jordan said today from his Waterford home. “I maintain you have no more control over your basic intelligence than your eye color or your gender or anything else.”

He said he does not plan to take any further legal action.

Jordan, a 49-year-old college graduate, took the exam in 1996 and scored 33 points, the equivalent of an IQ of 125. But New London police interviewed only candidates who scored 20 to 27, on the theory that those who scored too high could get bored with police work and leave soon after undergoing costly training.

Most Cops Just Above Normal The average score nationally for police officers is 21 to 22, the equivalent of an IQ of 104, or just a little above average.

Jordan alleged his rejection from the police force was discrimination. He sued the city, saying his civil rights were violated because he was denied equal protection under the law.

But the U.S. District Court found that New London had “shown a rational basis for the policy.” In a ruling dated Aug. 23, the 2nd Circuit agreed. The court said the policy might be unwise but was a rational way to reduce job turnover.

Jordan has worked as a prison guard since he took the test.

That shit is true to this day. Intelligent people question things too much. They are more likely to disobey orders and make crooked cops very nervous.

The question of why we should pay to house and feed terrible people... its not about them... its about us as civilized society how we veiw the Basic dignity of humanity. We know the monster has no sense of human dignity, dont let his barbarian acts take both direct victims soul from their bodies and ours as a society.... we have control of one of those two things...

Thanks for your polite response and demeanor. I appreciate being able to have a discussion which focuses on the topic.

We agree that mass murderers are not welcome neighbors. So, you are okay with people who are mass extortionists though ?
People who threaten to initiate force, who will steal your home if you don't acquiesce to giving them money for ideas you don't care for, but ideas they benefit from ?

So if a person doesn't pay.. ahem... "their property taxes" you are okay with the process which could end with their death if they defend their property and fail to hand it over to the armed men who will come to throw them out ?

Could there be other ways to fund things ?

I'm a monster. I'll be sending you a grocery list and be by your house later to pick my food up.

Please keep the beer cold for me, I like to have one on the ride home. Thanks for your service and protecting my human dignity.

Millions of homeless wandering the streets while the bad guys are high and dry. Warm and fed. Clothed and cared for. Makes no sense.

No, I wouldn't be OK with the Feds killing a homeowner over past due taxes. I would like to think that there could be a more peaceful resolution. However, if you pull a weapon on a federal agent I don't think it would end well.

I'm open to other ways to fund things, but I have yet to hear any reasonable alternatives. Unfortunately I feel that there has to be some sort of threat involved, otherwise people would just chose not to pay their share. I don't think the honor system would work. I also feel that the barter system would not work either. What would we do with the millions of people that have nothing to barter with?

I'm not a fan of the death penalty, but for mass murderers caught red handed, there should be a way to string them up right away and be done with them. Guys like this kid, Malvo, Unabomber, McVeigh, adios!

Im a pretty liberal democratic socialist. I am all for providing basic subsistance and shelter for homeless... i never said im ok with their treatment either... we need to think how do we help our neigbor mindset instead of this i got minr you get urs mentality about everything...

If we imprson anyone how can they really earn their salt so to speak? So even folks that only "deserve" say 5 years would need to be put to death because we shouldnt have to feed them? Thats the logical flaw in the argument itsvunjust to feed a prisoner.

We were referring to people who were sentenced to life in prison, not people who are serving a 5 year sentence.

You should not speak of logical flaws....

So what about a 55 year old sentenced to 40 years? Its effectively life in prison should we starve them or just have them put to death to save the food we "waste" on them? But if a 20 year old was sentenced to the same 40 years they are worth paying for food??? I guess where do u see line in sand for how many years its worth to feed someone vs death penalty... obviously you think we should pay for 5 years of food but at how many years do we call it not worth it and just kill em?

They may be monsters but at their core they are human, just because they have no reguard for human dignity doesnt mean we shouldnt

I am referring to people who have life in prison without parole. We have different standards of dignity.
