First Grow: Durban Poisen (quasi outdoors)

they are around a 3 gallon pot made of some sort of hardish plastic (with holes cut in the bottom obviously). i was thinking about putting them in 5 gallon pots?
is pot legal where you are ?
good your pots are plastic so you can flex the sides when u want to take them out..... id still give them another 2 weeks or so before you transplant ... the more the roots spread in there .. the easier it comes out

Hello,

I'm having an outdoor grow in south america. its not really even the height of the summer yet so I thought I wouldn't be able to sex my plants for a while still but looking closely at them this morning to me I see some tiny white hairs coming out. I tried taking some pictures but they didn't turn out super great.

i circled what I htink are the signs of females (and on one plant a male).

what do you think? I planted them Oct 24th so they are about 9 weeks in.

and here is a pic of the group as a whole.

I transplanted 2 of the biggest plants into their 6 gallon pots. i think one of them is a male though so i might have to get rid of that one and transplant one of the females.

yea man, you called fems rite ... the other one i would wait a little on ... kinda does look like new growth
if someone else is grown outside near you could get seeds also

those plants will get big and tall, so if you can, i'd transplant them into 10 gallon containers.

i doubt anyone around here is growing.

so since i can sex them now does that mean they are in the preflowering stages? how do i know when they are going to enter the flowering stage?

i thought it would be a while form now since its only be the beginning/middle of summer.

so i went out there this morning with a magnifying glass and the one i suspected was male def had the little ball on it so i got rid of it.

so far i have 3 that I can def. tell are female, 1 that i got rid of that was male and 2 that I cant tell yet either way.

Hey, GeekPride, you`re plants look great. Gonna watck through out, howw you`re doint.
Realy great job You have done. :)

Man you are doing awesome for a first grow. I am at latitude 22.5 in Rio and going to get off to a real late start this year unfortunately but with the insane growing conditions down here and another 2 1/2 to 3 months til 12/12 I think I'll at least get something to save me from the favela brick garbage I have been smokin. Glad to see what your plants look like already, if I get them that big before flowering I should be happy. Next year the 8-9 month veg though for some monsters!!!! Glad to see someone down here in SA. I've been talkin to Aussies and watching that since they have the most similar photoperiod. Nice balcony btw...
Go Gringoes!!

It's hard to answer you about the early flowering but I have a feeling you have to be quite a bit north of me to be flowering already. Maybe around Quito, Ecuador or Belem, Brazil would make sense that it's happening.

I am definitely not a weed growing authority as, out of necessity, I am about to embark on my first weed grow in 20 years (have a serious veg herbs and fruit garden though) so I would ask around but my understanding is the plant is now mature and showing sex but will still veg for quite some time. I'll be watching and sending you and your plants good karma! :weed:

it just means they are mature they will only have a few pistols here and there, they will start preflowering as the days get closer to 12/12... which is toward the end of summer ...
check your sunrise/set times ?

gotcha. so they aren't really preflowering yet they are just showing some signs of sex. thanks a lot! you have been tons of help in my grow.

so the 3 confirmed females are growing great still. the other 2 i still cannot sex. is this normal? I'm almost to the point of declaring them males but i dont want to judge too soon and get rid of plants that could turn out female. they dont have "balls" really. there are tiny nubs on some of the areas but I really cant determine if they are male because of this or its just new growth (even with a 8x magnifier).

should i just let them grow more until I figure it out?

I've also been battling some really annoying pests. first it was white flies about a month ago but i got rid of those pretty easily with neem oil.

now its some sort of tiny little black guy and viewing really close up they seem t ohave wings.

they are all over a lot of the plants. i've tried neem oil and they stuck around. I think tried the dish soap + vinegar + water trick but all that did was make some of the leaves get some orange spots and the bugs are still there!

annoying. i think i'm going to lay off for a while and try to get rid of them by hand and see if they dont multiply too much.

here are some updated pics. some i did some closeups of the unknown ones maybe someone can see something i cant and be able to tell their sex?

You just wait. Don`t hurry with decision.
But I doubt, they are males. If they were, they should come up earlier.
But plants looks great! :)

OK i took some more clear pictures.

male? new growth? cant tell?

I don't see it.. Wait.. remember how you felt the other one sexed early. Probably just paranoid and thinking every new shoot's going to be a ball. Not like it's going to impregnate the females immediately anyway so just wait it out like a nervous dad at the hospital. Hoping its a girl!
