First indoor grow, need some light on a few questions.

i'm not good at conversions. my 6 inch fan is 400 cfm. wonder what that is in m3/hr?

could you put a small fan outside your tent at the bottom to blow in cooler room air at the bottom vent?

this is a good time to mess around with different fan configurations before the plants get growing.

but yeah, 29C is just a bit on the high side for my liking too.

According to some random converter, 280m3 is ~165cfm

Yeah, I know, problem is, the exhausted air is quite hot, around 35-36C which raises my room temp to about 25C...So, actually that the growtent is only 5C higher is quite good, perhaps I do need to open a window.

could you vent the tent exhaust into another room/attic/ ceiling etc ?? that could help.

the good news is that the high heat won't be a big problem until you start flowering. so you got some time to figure it out.

Nope, that's the problem. It's an appartment and nothing to vent to im afraid.

Yeah well....I just reached 30C....fuuuck :) Oh well, nothing is unsolvable!

Opened a window and got the temp down to a nice 26C, since the tent can remain "sealed" and the room be colder, it shoult cool the tent down and the air passing into the tent also. We'll se tomorrow how this test will pan out. Anyways, thanks everybody for your fast replies :)

I'll get back when something else comes to mind or if one of the seeds sprouts :)

that was gonna be my next suggestion.

also, hps burns cooler than mh so that will help when you switch to flower

good luck! keep us posted

Yeah, but isnt that difference in the heat generated only marginal? In the whole big picture sort of way.

Anyways! Temp down to 24-25 and one seed has sprouted! The "shell" is still bent over, but i can see that leaves have formed and will probably show up later tonight or tomorrow :) quite excited that one of them seems to have made it :)

it's a degree or 2 which sometimes can help out if you're right on the edge. and you can keep your light a bit closer to the plant tops so you'll get better penetration in flower.

True that. Is it a safe way to "measure" that I hold my hand over the top of a plants leaves, hold it for about 10-15sec and if there's any discomfort I need to back off the light?

As of now, one of the seeds is about 50% of the way to have its first leaves facing the light. It'll probably do so in a few hours with the rapid progress it's making. Can't really take a picture, due to that my camera is a damn potato (worthless picture quality)

i use the back of the hand trick too. just not for seedlings. i'd keep a 400 about 24 inches away until they get to be 5 to 6 inches tall. than start moving your light down a little bit at a time.

Yeah, either side of the hand :) Oh wow, only 24 inches ? Haha I had mine about 40-45 inches away :P Moved mine down a bit now, we'll see how the temps change too.

if the temps get too hot then move up as needed. the seedlings would do better with less light vs too hot of temps.

Yeah, I know. I've got a digital thermometer and humidity meter down by the seedlings as well as one that's hanging about 15cm below the cool tube.

I've got about 28.5 below the cool tube and about 26.5 by the seedlings, which is quite alright in my book.

Got any tips on how to, get a stable RH%? I've got a towel that's half submerged into a small bucket of water and that i've hung up, wide, by 2 strings, to create a sail (to paint a picture in your head) but it doesn't really seem to be making any difference in the humidity.

I'm guessing the "baby leaves" shouldn't really be paid attention too since they won't really be doing anything right?

I'm just curious about the shape they're taking....or rather, that it's looking to point down rather than up towards the light.

I have always sprouted seeds in the dark also. In between two damp paper towels in a dark spot, once they sprout I put them into cubes or soil in cups and use a CFL on them until they get to 4 leaves. In my experience I have never worried about RH unless I had cuttings. If your seed are good they should sprout regardless. I also use CFLs until they are root bound in a solo cup.

Yeah, thats basically the approach I took, when it comes to germination. I dont have any CFL bulbs so I went straight for my 400W MH, since it's quite far away (moved a bit closer now though) doesnt seem to be a problem though.

So I shouldn't worry about the shape of the first seedling that's sprouted leaves? I'm hoping that the other two will show signs tomorrow.

Yep! I've got it setup like this. Carbon filter - duct - cool tube (400W MH) - duct and then exhaust out. I've got no intake fan though, just relying on an opening which I open up when the light is on, since the pressure is negative (?) it should suck in air by itself if i'm not mistaken.

I use to run my room like this and I also had heat problems. I started running the same CFM fan that use as exhaust to push cool air back inside my room. My temps went from mid 95F to low 70sF

When they are this small they always curl down. It looks perfectly healthy. As soon as you get the next set they will start to look "normal"

Huh? You mean you had the same exhaust setup as I did and you added another fan to push cold air in? I might get a 12v computer fan to do that job. The air is still quite cold outside so passive cooling is working right now, probably even better with an active fan pulling air in.

No sorry, let me clarify! I had a 600 CFM fan hooked to a carbon filter pulling air out of sealed room. I put another exhaust "hole" in the bottom of the room. So as the exhaust fan pushed heat out it would create a vacuum pulling cool air in. I still had temperature problems as well as humidity. I bought an additional 600CFM and hooked it up to the "hole" I was using to pull air from outside of the room. Now they circulate air at the same rate
