that is my current strawberry cough by dutch passion bought from GYO. they are in pro mix HP i water 1 gal for 3 of um in 3gal pots every 3 days. on 4th day they get watered. today was my 3rd watering since i transplanted from last week thursday. 11 inches seems too close as well for lights but it HIGHLY varies on the lights themselves. weaker lights you can put very close with no adverse affects unless they are touching the lights. the little LED in the back is a lightimetunnel 75W probably runs at like 30W actual draw i run those on my blue widows at 5inches high. currently using King Plus 2000W LED actual draw stated by the company is 392W people said it's actual draw is 375, 382 but haven't seen any actual tests to confirm those numbers. i run them on my blue widows at 24inches and let them grow into it to about 21 inches before moving them up. with the strawberries i can run them closer at 18 inches and move them up as they grow into it. it takes about 2-3 days to grow into but you can't see in the pic but it does have raised edges due to lights.

yes you are better off starting your own thread for more replies. i dont run HPS but 11 inches for HPS i would HIGHLY assume is WAY TOO CLOSE if i am not mistake HPS puts off more heat then LED's so yea i think your frying the shit out of your plants but i don't use HPS so i can't really help you with that. i only run LED's and CFL's

I was not really singling out @Strawberryman86 (although I realize it looked like that) as he is really new getting used to the site & rules. There is another in this thread that seems to enjoy derailing other people's threads.

Hopefully this little hint will be taken to heart.

I ordered a 10 pack of 2700k bulbs. They arrived on Wednesday and we went ahead and switched the girls to flower (12/12 cycle) starting on Thursday. We've got some clones that are really taking off and I have some closet modifications I need to make for the next round so we decided to sacrifice a little bit of yield for time.

So far we're looking good, I think. Moving the lights up a few inches seems to have helped with filling more of the grid. I'm still pruning under the grid and still tucking above the grid. Otherwise, it's business as usual. Here are pics from today after tucking.

Figured I would update my post here with the final results.

So we went to flower on 1/22 and harvested on 3/26. A 9 week flower time, which is right smack in the middle of the estimated flower window for this strain (advertised as 8-10wk). I probably could/should have harvested a week ago, but we like more of the 'couch lock' effect and help with sleeping. Pistils were about 75% brown and curling. Tri's were maybe 50%, at most, amber.

Overall, the flower phase went well. At some point the left plant got stressed and decided to only produce popcorn bud. My guess is heat stress because that side of the closet didn't have much (next to none) airflow and that plant was not pruned nearly enough. I guess I decided to delete the picture of that plant because it was so ugly. The right plant flowered beautifully, though it also suffered a bit from a lack of pruning (small popcorn under the big nuggets). I am making changes to the closet to hopefully combat stress to the next "left" plant and will be more meticulous on pruning.

The left "popcorn" plant ended up with 11.7oz and the right "beautiful" plant ended up with 18.5oz. WAY more than we were expecting. Yes, I know that these are not the final weights and I am expecting to lose 75% of that weight during the dry/cure and after removing all of the stems and leaves. Plus, there is quite a bit of tiny buds that will be destined for the butter making process. Our goal was 1oz for smoke to call it a success, and I think we'll probably exceed that.

They look nice man congrats on your first grow. It sounds like you had a very realistic goal, and that you will definitely exceed that.

If I can be painfully honest with you, I think you actually should have left them another 2 weeks. Those plants definitely had more to give. You shouldn't even look at trichomes until 90% of the stigma(which is the proper name for pistils) have reddened, and receeded. At that point the plant is typically in its last 2 weeks, and will stop outward bud growth. It isn't done yet though, it still needs those last 2ish weeks to swell internally and put on more weight. The last 2 weeks can be a significant amount of yield, and the last 2 weeks are when the plant does MOST of its maturing. The best smoke always comes from healthy FULLY matured plants.

Thanks for the advice Thundercat. Now I am slightly worried, but hopefully it’s not complete crap. :) I really wasn’t sure and the trichomes were popping amber extremely fast. The lower stigma were all red and curled in and the uppers were all barely starting to turn. Having no prior experience to go on, I wanted (hoped) to err more on the side of caution and chopped them. We will do a test smoke in a week or two and see what the effects are and then I will have a baseline for my next harvest.

Your ok man, I'm sure you will still enjoy them. Its a lesson we all had to learn. I think its safe to say we all have chopped early at some point. Since your new you did fine. I was just trying to share for future grows.

You can pretty much ignore breeder time recommendations, and focus on the signs the plant is giving. I don't even recommend looking at trichomes untill 90+% of the stigma have turned on the main colas at least. People put way to much focus on just the trichomes and overlook the rest of the picture. Its REALLY HARD to over ripen a cannbis plant. No matter what you read on the internet or in a grow book. It usually takes Many weeks to over do it. As it happens I have never seen someone actually over ripen a plant, I know I havn't done it. None of us are patient enough for it to happen I promise you. As you grow more plants it will get more obvious what signs they are giving, and you'll figure it out. When in doubt, feel free to ask for our advise :).

I am going to close up this thread officially now and move to an actual grow log. I have deviated far from the path of my original topic and this grow practically done (just curing left). Here's the finals on this grow.

At a controlled 62F and low humidity with airflow, it took 8 days to dry to a "snap".

At harvest, we had a total of 29.6oz. After drying, we had a total of 6.5oz. About a 78% loss of moisture, which is about what I was expecting.

After trimming, we ended up with 4.8oz of bud and 0.7oz of trim. That means about an ounce lost to stem. Again, about the same ratio I was expecting.

The final product is all in jars to cure, but we couldn't resits and invited some friends over to try a couple of bowls. Pleasantly surprised to find out that it didn't end up being crap at all. Fairly smooth and a nice in-between of a head and body high. We all liked it very much and it is nearly 4oz more than we were hoping for, so I think mission accomplished for this go around.

Now to get started on a grow journal for the next round!
