Here we go

Florida’s Republican-controlled state House and Senate advanced bills this week that would train teachers to carry guns in classrooms, advancing GOP calls for more weapons in schools following the Feb. 14 massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

The legislature’s Republican/NRA/Trump package, approved by committees in both chambers, would devote $67 million to establish school “marshals” ― teachers and school staff (janitors/cooks) trained to carry a concealed weapon (weapon to be supplied by the lowest bidder)

I don't know about you boys and girls, but the idea of arming teachers to defend their students across this "great" country, is a frightening prospect, and the world is probably scratching it's head, saying what the fuck, I knew they were assholes, but really, that's their solution?

I would say this is unbelievable, but it is a sad fact.

Fuck the NRA/GOP and Trump especially, to even come up with the concept.

What did protesters say they wanted? Gun bans and gun control. Specifically said they do not want armed teachers. What do Fla's lawmakers do? Arm teachers.

How about if Florida's lawmakers arm schools with better books.

I'm all for this The average shooting is <3 minutes. It takes place on average 5 minutes just to get there. You saw from this last shooting even if the police are there it does not mean they will actually act. Teachers have a vested interest in their children. So yes they should be the 1st line of defense. We can spend millions of dollars to safeguard sporting events and stadiums why can't we do it with our schools? It's not like teachers are gonna be walking around with rifles on their shoulders and actually having concealed weapons is probly less traumatic for the kids.

I don't usually agree with Terps, but this time I think he's correct, and really who gives a fuck what the students want? It was a student that shot up the school. Let the adults talk on this one.

Actually, a smart thing to do would be to train and arm the school janitor. He's usually got something with him that could easily conceal a handgun, maybe even a rifle, and is rarely seen by most as a threat.

67 million is not enough to do the job properly, I think teachers would prefer the money to go to equipping the schools so they can do a proper job of teaching not body guarding. The only reason they are doing this is to appease the NRA, and keep the NRA's money coming to the GOP bank accounts, by not creating better laws for gun control and back ground checks.

People should have to attend safety courses and prove they are competent to have a gun, have back ground checks that allow medical records to be evaluated, and wait a month minimum to get a license, before they can even buy a gun. You need to have lessons and pass a test, to prove you can drive a car, why not a gun which is just as dangerous. After all cars dont kill, people do.

My daughter's in high school and at her last lock-down drill, the instructor said he would use a baseball bat to try and stop a shooter from entering the room (that none of them could escape from). I empathize with teacher's that would like a little better defense than a baseball bat.

if they implement this, i hope more than 1/2 of teachers resign immediately.

i am sick and god damned tired of these ignorant motherfuckers we call republicans....
So think of this from the standpoint you're a psychopath ready to bust into a school and start busting rounds at people. You have two choices.

West Snowflakeville where it's a gun-free zone. Or, East Carryville where you know there's armed teachers.

Which one are you going to choose as your destination?

Amuricans need to get over the need for guns and the bullshit excuse of using the constitution in arguing about your rights, it's really old, specially outside the US (when was that constitution written again?, seriously). Any "solution" to solve an issue of too many guns, too easily obtained, that uses more guns to "solve" the issue sounds absolutely absurd to anyone living outside your borders. Get over your "rights" issues and pay more attention to important things like protecting and educating your kids about the stupidity of adding more guns to solve this or any other problems.

We have rednecks here in Canada too, we just don't allow them to take over the country or use lame excuses to justify their archaic, backwards thinking.

"let's just call the police, that's always worked well in the past!"
no, how about we stop defunding the mentally ill like reagan did. most of those people are in prison being taken care of now.
