Flowering with Cree bulbs

Using 620 to 730nm i can see the change from orange to red then deep red...with 730 being the deepest red.

So far the colors I've used have all had obvious attributes. The 730 triggered shade avoidance big time when used at higher levels. Didn't notice any other gains or losses.

Hard to say on the penetration of leaves. it doesn't seem to do anything but act as a trigger for flowering and cause major stretching when used in excess. Doesn't appear to build buds at all like 660 does.
 
Hey Cap'n!!!! Glad to see you among the living and still flying the flag. I see you compared the old and the new CREE bulbs and to me it begs the question. Are the new ones better because they put out roughly the same amount of light with less diodes and so are they a more efficient lighting source? Or am I reading it wrong? Would really help to know more about the drivers CREE uses, I'm pretty sure the old one's are constant voltage but that's all I remember offhand. Maybe it's time for an old CREE vs new CREE grow off. Yeah bitch! LOL

ATM I've got 16 CREE bulbs in my flowering tent. 12 x 2700K 9.5 original and 4 x 5000K 9 watt originals mounted inside a 2 halved 2 foot long piece of PVC. The PVC has been lined with foil tape and the bulbs secured with a hose clamp that forces their heatsinks into the PVC and gets the diodes closer to the reflective surface. Great for heat too, along with the ceramic sockets I'm using. This is a picture of one that I'm going to rebuild/rewire soon, (Pro Tip- don't try to wire them in series kiddies LOL). I'll be installing some more reflectors inside the tube but they really work great in my setup just like this. Also the nature of the design works really well either hanging with bungie cords or installing caps on the ends and using them vertically, though you really should mount the cap to a piece of wood or some other base for stability. D'uh :).

Got my $26 20 watt 660 nm flood today and my 630 nm version should ship tomorrow.
This one even came with the plug,first couple I got I had to add my own plug.

Not a bad price for some added red spectrum, I def believe it helped my flowers in my current run. They are rock hard dense at not even 7 weeks

Cheap Chinese stuff but I bought my first one last summer and it's still working fine.

660 nm seems to be under appreciated around here. Big believer in full spectrum if you want quality,here's what I would add to a warm white base UVA,UVB,660,680,730 and 630 depending where the red peak is.

DTE Energy,my local electric utility is sponsoring a discount on the Cree bulbs at home depot. The 2700k soft white 9.5 watt seem to have the biggest discount,normally $13 now $8 the 9 watt 5000k were $14 now $10 and the BR30 was $20 now $13. I'm going to pick some up tomorrow,can't beat $8 each.

Don't want to rub it in but you can, they're $4.97 here ;) some people are even getting it cheaper, I think it was vermont that has them for $1.97 because of the subsidies. I hate that I can't use them, as my rig isn't equipped to bounce the other side of light the right way.

Wow,if they were $2 here I'd buy 100 of them.
 
Got my 20 watt red flood today but it was a 660 nm and not the 630 nm I ordered.
Sent them a email and I'll see what they say,they sent me a red + blue the first time I ordered from them instead of a all 660 nm I ordered and they told me to keep it free of charge and then sent me the right one.
Hope they do the same thing this time.
 
Between you and me though, aren't the far-red 660nm emitters better suited to supplement your warm/neutral lights.

if it were me I'd have preferred the 660nm over the 620nm fo sho.



but Either way, may you have good juju with your retailer interactions. One lamp of each would kick arse.
 
Day 49 on the little critical kush under the XGS 190, looks really good and less than a week to go I'd say.
