this is high up on my wish bucket list but not really affordable anymore. kick myself in the ass every time one comes up for auction and I could have bought relatively cheap 40 years ago.
Beautiful, but I'd hate to have to feed that ravenous bitch.

no kiddin' you'd burn thru $500 in a heartbeat. Great creds at the range though...
I follow a auction co. called Rock Island. They had a pristine one like this that went for $65K. and their high estimate on it was $90K! wow. all those older auto weapons are out of sight. Even the beat up ones are $20K. too rich for barn.

Yup. But when I had to make the choice, i went M1a. Scout. I've since sold that scout to my brother, and have bought a loaded m1a and a socom16. I love my m1a's!
I still can't believe I don't have an M1 Garand in my collection. Note to self: pick up an M1garand finally!
I would love to shoot an M14 in full auto some day. Sort of a bucket list type thing.

Have you looked at the CMP route? The pickins are getting slimmer as the years pass but you can still get the Garand via CMP for a reasonable price
You'd shoot your eye out!

@Singlemalt CMP has been around forever haven't they? Seems I remember visiting a store at Perry back in the 70's. They had quite a collection of M1's, M1903's, M1917's.

Oh yeah, started around 1903. The original purpose was to provide civilians an opportunity to learn and practice marksmanship skills so they would be skilled marksmen if later called on to serve in the U.S. military. Camp Perry is where they hold most of the annual shooting matches, both civilian and military
My go-to hunting weapon is an A3-03 match rifle re-chambered to 30-06 Ackley Improved with a Swarovski scope & floated in a Bell & Carlson (Freedom Tan) stock.
Putting a 180 gr Partition through a quarter @ 100 yds is child's play.
I'll grab a pic when I get to the house.

The old MGYSGT that taught me to shoot swore by the '03A3. Watching him and his pals shoot unsupported off-hand was amazing. Another regret that I didn't get some of these surplus military rifles back when and have his amorer buddies work them over.
Mine was one of the surplus guns my father passed down to me that had been massaged by a buddy of his whom was an armorer in the Korea era.
I had all the other work done to her, but never had to touch the trigger group, it breaks like glass w/ no creep, roughness or over travel.
