Got guns?

Anyone else here make their own bullets? I've collected a multi-lifetime supply of clip-on wheel weights from various garages and buddies around town that I molded using muffin tins. I probably have close to 1,000 pounds in my garage and I'm not exaggerating. I also have linotype too that was given to me by a neighbour that I mostly traded for regular wheel-weight lead with the milspec shooters. 4 pounds of regular lead for 1 pound of linotype. That didn't sound fair, but guys were fighting each other over it. lol

I really like a heavy 9mm bullet for IPSC Production Division, loaded just below 130 power factor with fast powder. I now use the Lyman 4-cavity mold #356637 for 9mm, and shoot them as cast without resizing. With my alloy, they drop at about 156 grains and are about .358 in diameter. Clocking around 825fps with a power factor over 128, they are loaded to an OAL of around 1.080 in front of 2.9 grains of Vihtavuori N320. My favorite production gun really isn't "stock", but the modifications I've done to it are within the rules. With that load it's like shooting butter through a straw.

I used to grease, but now I powder coat my production handgun bullets. I choose Dillon blue of course! This looks a bit ghetto with the pie plate, but it works for me cause they're easy to pickup every crank:

I've helped a friend make some a few times. Mostly from old fishing weights and lead from different ranges. I haven't done it enough to really get a system down. Would like to mess with it in the future.

The problem with range lead is that it's nearly pure lead for the most part and more difficult to get a perfectly filled cast, but yours look just fine to me. Sadly clip-on WWs are getting harder to find now, and those stick-ons are pretty much pure lead. This is a hobby that I'm afraid may have its days numbered, and kids today will not never know it. I find it very relaxing when I get into a groove, and the bullets pile up pretty quickly, maybe 500/hour. Kinda sad when I can easily reload 1,000 rounds per hour with the Dillion 650XL with case feeder though. I use two molds and alternate between them for cooling. It's works great for steel molds, not so much for aluminum (Lee molds) that cool pretty quick anyway.

How dare you melt old fishing weights! Lol I fish too, and have a (Lee) mold for making those. I powdercoat them Dillon blue as well. Hahaha

Nice. yeah i got mine to carry and never got around to getting the permit, since then the g43x, springfield hellcat, and sig p365 were invented and have managed to squeeze the capabilities of the g19 into a slimmer, smaller, better (imo) package.

1911's are great but the inner workings are a bit more complex, i love the simplicity of the polymer guns. Ive heard stories of certain 1911s not functioning correctly with certain ammo brands/types as well which is a bit alarming. It wouldnt hurt to spend a few bucks and rent a couple guns if you have a range with rentals nearby. But i agree with you on shops having bare shelves, i have bought my last few guns and all their ammo online for a markup that i wasnt happy about lol.
Wouldn't mind a G43x in the near future. Instantly not a fan of the Hellcat after shooting it for the first time, way snappier than my P365.

I think I decided I'll just get both a G17 and a G19 and a bunch of magazines for now. My wife can payoff some credit cards with the rest of the stimulus. They had everything in stock today but they're closed tomorrow. I'm gonna try to go on Monday.

Just a pic I found. I don't have them yet, lol.

I know. All the ammo I've seen online is jacked up. I'm gonna find out if they're charging more now too, but I have faith my shop isn't gonna pull that shit. I'm probably gonna get some ammo too if they have decent prices.

I plan to spend a couple grand, so I should be able to get a couple pistols, 20+ mags, and some extra 9mm ammo. I'm getting excited. I called the store twice today, lol.

That looks like about $2k of authentic Gibeon (Namibia) meteorite each.
Meteoric nickel-iron is shockingly reactive. I’ve seen oiled pieces rust.

~edit~ I lowballed a bit.
