"Social engineering" when done by a group that relies upon force, government, I find objectionable. Choice has been removed and replaced with an "or else" coercive repercussion for failing to "volunteer".
"Social engineering" when done by a group that is attempting to persuade buyers to excercise free will in a purchase, is "marketing" which is an element of choice. I don't find freedom objectionable.
