After two weeks of burping mason jars, I like to put as many will fit in large solid plastic case totes and bury them so just the lid is above soil. I put a black trash bag over the top and down the sides past the lid so rain will not fill it. Cover all that with a thick layer of pine needles and some slash.
After 6 months you get a super smooth smoke. Temps don't get hot in the summer at all. I do something similar with rum and it stays nice and cool even on the hottest day. It's my version of a mini-fridge for my greenhouse.
Never had any mold. I think it is a great way to store bud outside your house if you live in the woods like me. Best long term storage I have short of making hash. Sort of a pain to dig up so not ideal for burping stage.
Burying individual jars would work for sure if you bagged them and dug very carefully when retrieving.
