JackBerry Grow

I am starting this thread tonight because I am drunk, and will forget to do it if I don't do it right now. Seeds were germinated like 2 or 3 days ago, four max. I will be using GH's Flora Series and good ol home made RDWC's with a shit load of bubbles. and a little pump in the bottom of each one for maximum recirculation.

I buy my air rings from the only motha ucka on the block who knows his shit.. modularhydro. I will be doing multiple comparisons this grow..
A- Normal weighted air rings from modular hydro v. the new spider rings from modular hydro.
B- My tried and proven Yield Master II XXL v. cool tubes from hydrofarm. (600w category)
C- My old darker, single layered duct tape reservoirs v. my new, heavy duty, lighter colored but double layered reservoirs.

I also plan on feeding these little hookers aggressively, and doing the 1st half of veg with MH, and the last half with HPS.. all sorts of fun and radical notions over here on the JackBerry thread, so yall all come hang out. I gotta go and pee now, but tomorrow will hit you with the pics and better less drunk info.
PEACE

Check out motorcycle accessories for oil coolers. Little radiators like in your car. 3/8" vinyl line connections slip over fittings. The trick to cooling oil (or nutrient solution) is keeping it out of the reservoir. Simply running a 3/8" line from your return and around a path of plain tubing looped cools it a little. Add the cooler and it works well. 2 little PC fans can fit over one cooler side-by-side. An evaporative cooler pump can pump enough volume and pressure to run a cooling circuit using an oil cooler/fan setup.

very cool. all the ones i see are like 150 though, just cant spare any cash for it at the moment. after one or two laps with this current setup I am going to go ahead and spend the cash on some chillers, and better systems. i need to make a list actually -
1. a subpanel and new outlet wiring for the room
2. 16-18'' of attic insulation
3. some pro-grade aeroponics or RDWC's
4. aquarium chillers

Once i get the insulation in, and can afford to keep my house temp nice and low, then I think the res temperature problems will resolve themselves. My house is at 78, which I didnt think I could live with, but I am slowly adjusting. (sigh) ..the sacrifices one makes for their plants :-?

Day 14 of 24/0 ;

Firstly, there is one thing everyone needs to understand about JackBerry... once germinated, they start growing very quickly. I increased nutes yesterday to 330ppm, but other than that they have been coasting off 250ppm for awhile now.

There is some transpiration it looks like from the humidity of the reservoir coupled with maybe a slight over fert, but now temps are lowering and they are growing into it.

IMG_1848.jpgIMG_1851.jpgIMG_1852.jpg

(The one that has an entire res to itself lost it's friend- failed to sprout from the rockwool, and possibly just was nuked by direct exposure to the 600. In any case I have my last two Jack Berrys germinated and in some rockwool, so hopefully one of the two will sprout. I left this one at 250ppm because I expect to pop the new sprout in there with it, and don't want to burn it. Also- the one already in there is the best looking out of all, and has done well on 250ppm, so I am thinking it will be able to handle the low nutes until the other catches up with it)

IMG_1853.jpgIMG_1856.jpgIMG_1849.jpgIMG_1850.jpgIMG_1860.jpgIMG_1861.jpgIMG_1858.jpgIMG_1857.jpgIMG_1859.jpg

These below are my two Killing Fields F7 x Killing Fields Chinese Pheno (Feminized)

IMG_1855.jpgIMG_1854.jpg

The weaker one was a little slow to start rooting, then starting showing signs of deficiency - which I improperly diagnosed as over fert at first - anyways I waited a few days and then upped the nutes from 250 to 330ppm. Now they both are starting to take off. I am excited to have a couple o pure Sativa's for a treat :)

Day 17 of veg mang(s).

IMG_1862.jpgIMG_1863.jpg

Both the beans I germ'd to fill the vacancy on block 2 germinated, but only one is sprouting successfully, so I popped that one in the DWC that I have been keeping at 250ppm's and off she goes..

IMG_1864.jpg
Here is the Killing Fields F7 x KF Chinese Pheno that was looking poor a week ago, she has recovered and really has an interesting look to her leaf blades.. hopefully she'll give me some crazy herbs. Also, the other KF7 x KF Chinese Pheno.

IMG_1865.jpgIMG_1866.jpg

Here is the shortest pheno, but overall probably the best looking (IMO) JackBerry. Also the failing sprout, which I haven't given up on yet in the glass bowl.

IMG_1869.jpgIMG_1868.jpg

This is the bushiest and slightly scary looking pheno, which makes me think it is most likely a male. Not as pretty, but pretty cool. These JackBerrys are regular beans, so I won't know for sure for another few weeks.

IMG_1867.jpg

Roots are looking pretty awesome considering the high temperature of the reservoirs.

IMG_1870.jpgIMG_1872.jpgIMG_1871.jpg

And I am continuing to just let them do their thing, instead of trying to push them. I probably won't really lay it on them thick until mid flower. Im going to let them tell me what they want, and see if I can properly diagnose it as opposed to feeding exactly what is recommended. And I will of course still be using the feed chart as a guideline. This is all GH's Flora Tri Series, no Cal Mag, no Protekt - just the basics. + (GH's pH Downer)

Is your res temp really 78?? That's why you would have funky growth, because other than that it seems like you are spot on with everything so far. How many plants were you looking to do this round? Always have some back ups just in case you get a bunch of males. This round, I wanted 4-6 plants to grow out, and out of 10 seeds I surprisingly got 8 fems! I had to give some away, now I have 6 and they are getting so big I might give away my stretchy one with someone that doesn't have so many short plants like I do.

But your roots look good man, and your Jackberry is a rockstar. I can see them browning a bit, that's probably caused by the temps. Are these all linked together? Is there an external reservoir that's recirculating? If you do, you can throw some big frozen jugs of water in your separate reservoir and let it circulate chilled water to your babes. Hopefully get it at least out of the red, you know.

A lot of my friends use ice chests instead of storage tubs because they insulate much better, I hear that it really makes a difference.

Thanks mang. Yea my res temps are always higher than anyone else I see on here.. I can't believe they survive sometimes. It was 80-82 the first week or so.

No they are all individual DWC's with fountain pumps in them for recirculation purposes. Awesome about the Lemonhead.. is that what you germ'd? 80% is good stuff.

I'm just hoping I can get at least one female per reservoir at this point.. But am happy that I finally decided to get regular beans instead of feminized.. I will have to do a pheno hunt when they start to sex and pick up a good looking mother or two. Last time the buds were very light colored and fluffy, hopefully the JackBerry will produce some better looking herbs. Don't get me wrong, the Extrema was strong and good looking, but not tasty - The Herebei was slightly fruity and purpled nicely at the end of flower (but was not super potent and a low yielder), and The MadShack was super earthy and really skunky (and potent), but hadn't quite matured fully when I cut it, because it was put into flower a few weeks later than the rest. which I loved and would like to get a mother of.

Day 24 veg; 24/0

I am going to start 18/6 soon, at which time I will most likely switch out to HPS bulbs. I think I might veg for another month or so before putting them into flower, I need to fill out my scrog screen which I plan on having at 2ft.. the plan might change of course.

Still no sex yet, but some very pretty looking pheno's. They are starting to become stinky and sweet :)

Here is George Bush. The foliage is so thick that I had issues finding the stalk.

Dude, the rate that those are growing at fucking astounds me! Good MFing job dude! Work on those temps, but still, good job. IF you already have pumps in them man, adding an external reservoir would be as easy as hooking up a few tubes and cutting a few holes. I would go for it if you got the time.

I would love to do shit like that, but I have no time at all! I had a whole month before going on vacation (leaving tomorrow) to set up a res and drip system for my soiless plants, which is about 30 minutes of set up, and an hour of testing, and I haven't had a single opportunity! been doing 60 hour weeks and had to work 9 days in a row a few trips, and had to travel from the OC to the SFV 3 times to cover a shift, that's like 70 miles of the worst traffic in the US, which the 405 freeways is officially the worse. Google that shit. 2 hours to go 70 miles, fucking bullshit!

Anyways, yeah, my lemonhead had that germ rate, my old grow partners are thinking about calling it Wetdream OG instead of Lemonhead, but it doesn't have any of our blue dream in it so I don't really see the play on words there, but I can see that name being very popular. I still like Lemonhead OG though. LHOG or WDOG? WDOG looks good on paper. Wet Dog, lol.

I'm sad man, it sounds like you've been growing so much in my absence, and I didn't get to see any of your success. Oh well, anyways man, you keep at it and keep paying attention to details and keep on thinking for yourself, and you're going to be the baddest growing MFucker in the fuggin west!

Just drop your damn res temps already, it affects my OCD!

Thanks for the kind words dude. I haven't really been rocking it out too hard, I had a rough summer getting all my shit together but glad to finally get this little grow going. I am pretty excited about the JackBerry and pretty excited about the Killing Fields Chinese Pheno x KF7.. I have heard so many good things about both of them.

lol, Im sad too bro, but in the words of Rod Kimble, " Life is pain, and you gotta scrape the joy out of it." LHOG sounds better.. makes me think of Lemon Hog.. which sounds delicious.

It sucks you've been so busy, but I guess if you aren't making money, you're losing money. Oh I almost forgot to tell you.. I finally sampled some of those green tomatoes you sent me and they were greaaat. My mom has had them going in her garden all year, and the plant, which I named Bubba, is HUGE. He broke his bamboo support rod, and all the tomatoes hang off the side of the bed now, its like a bushy tree-like tomato structure. She also has some monster eggplant and bell peppers, which I think have only survived because her cat is a serious hunter and guards the shit. All the neighbors stuff gets eaten by racoons, mice, and ravens.. anyways those tomatoes are awesome.

DWC rocks, and you're right, it would be highly beneficial to get them all linked up together. I'll get those temps down for you by the time you get back from vacation :)

Hahaha, nice man. My mom had a huge tomato harvest this year. Those German Greens are by far our favorite. They are ridiculously sweet, and it's true, those fucking plants are monsters! We put hers into a 10 gal pot and that thing takes over the entire deck. We also have some of the Black Krim's going, but they are some robust and super acidic, definitely grown for making pasta sauce, not for sandwiches.

Lemon Hog, haha, now I am thinking about going to my favorite brewery/restaurant down the street, they serve wild game and boar chops sounds pretty good right now.

Day 30 veg; and boy are they getting stinky.

The two in reservoir with the Tri-meter on top are Jack Berries, which I have started referring to as the Twin Towers. They are both about 16 inches tall and have perfect christmas tree-like structure with lots of thick lateral branches. I know that one of these is a female, and I am pretty sure that the other is too.

The ones in front of the Twin Towers are also Jack Berries but smaller, nute sensitive, and more blue in their leaves, which lead to believe that they have more of their mother in them, (Sannies Blue Berry Indica), in them. I know one of these is a female as well.

IMG_1884.jpgIMG_1885.jpg

The Killing Fields F7 x KF Chinese Pheno (Fem) are in the back left reservoir, and the to the front right side of that are two more Jack Berries. George Bush (the bushiest pheno with more blue in its leaves) is a female.

IMG_1886.jpg

I also cleaned all of my reservoirs today, rinsed them with tap water, then sprayed them and wiped them down with some kitchen cleaner made with bleach. When I cleaned them out I noticed that there was very little salt build up or "crustiness", but there were a few small clumps of what looked like algae in each of the reservoirs. They've been going without a clean for a little over a month.

@ Jozikins - Have you ever heard of a strain called White Hog? I think I remember reading about it like 6-7 years ago when I first started thinking about starting a garden.. Apparently its from Mississippi or something, or was grown there.. and has one of the highest ever recorded THC percentages.
