Light Mover?

so ur telling me over the time of the grow running 3 1000 watt light wont cost 900 bucks overall? after u harvest. 2-3 months of flower not to mention the veg. yeah not monthly but per grow. if ur in the 3rd or 4th power tier from ur power company like i am it will cos that much. which he should be with 3 1000s going at once. .25-.30 cents per kilowatt hour to run my 1000s 12/12 it cost me 108 bucks per light per month.

3lightsX108roughlypermonthX2-3 months. should cost 650-900 bucks in power per grow. whereas a light rail would kill his bill by 2/3.

unless he lives somewhere cold or hot where he gets power breaks for heat and air conditioning its going to cost him.
Ok well firstly, you were talking about entire grow, we were talking about monthly.. But ya, for 4 months of lights running, for sure $900... Per month... (hopefully) not more than 200-300... But yes, super big break with cooling, we have 1 10" exhaust blower, and 1 6" running. Thats it. No ac needed... We pump in the freezing canadian air and it cools it down super well... I actually think it might be a bit TOO cold for the plants.. but we have a mite problem so I suppose this is the better alternative...

I run 12 600's 2 400's and 2 T-5's, with the 3 air conditioners and all my equipment runnung in the heat of the summer I don't pay $900 a month! Where do you live that warrants that statement?
How much do you think 3 1000w running at 100% would cost a month?

900 bucks is a lot of special circumstance dude. he will notice. trust me. its not cheap running 3 thousand watt lights and the fans and shit to properly cool them. but good luck dude. im subbed just to see what happens. :)
I will come back just to tell you what happens.. But right when I started off I had a lot of questions, so I made an account with 3 different growing forum sites and asked the same questions on each- to find out which helps the most. RIU helped the least lol... So I will not be posting the grow or updating it on here.. It IS posted on both the other sites though.. Which is 'grasscity' and 'international cannagraphic magazine forum'. Same user name btw haha so I am easy to find :p

This is 3 KW/h per hour, times 12 hours a day, times how many days you run your flower. multiply the number of kw/h used by your cost of kw/h (prolly 20-30cents a kwh)

i think this persons real question is, how does he figure out what hes paying per kw/h

ur gas and electric bill or power bill in ur area will tell u what power tier ur in. its broken up into 4 tiers tier 1 is like 8 cents per kw/h. tier 2 is like 15-20 cents per kw/h and tier 3 which im in is roughly 30 cents per kw/h and tier 4 is 35-40 cents per kw/h. the more power u use the higher tier ur in. ur bill will tell u.

330 bucks a month roughly if ur just flowering. veg is going to be roughly 500 buck a month.
Hmm ya, and there is no way for me to figure out what the bills are.. I do not get them :/

Anyways I am going to set up a perpetual cycle so wont be 500$ a month for veg... I flower with 3 1000w lights, running 12-12 obviously... Then I will have 15-20 plants under 1 1000w mh light for veg.

Makes sense right?

But thanks for the estimate.. still, a $330 jump is not a small thing :/

Light movers work great for better light penitation. but the bigger foot print thing not so much, you want light on your plants at all times, if you need to cover a bigger area get more lights, My lightrail 3.5 has a 6 foot track but i only let it move 6"- 12" so i get better light penitation, with out depriving other plants of the light

no its not. :( sadly i deal with it every month. but the income from the gonja is decent enough to cover the power and stuff from peeps donations now. startup was a killer. but after the first or second harvest it pays for itself.

its actually a mith that more light actually helps ur plants extremely. ur plant only uses up so much of the light it recieves at one time. its kinda like an on off switch. its on and soaking up the light and then its off so it can process it and use it for energy. then lights on and lights off again. direct light 100% of the time isnt actually needed. also high times did a light rail side by side test and it only lowered the yield 10% on the side with the rail but saved almost 300 bucks a month on power. im using about 4 ft of my rail now flowering 4 5.5 ft monsters with no issues.

Ya, I understand that point on light movers but I believe that it is not just plants all getting some light.. I believe the more light each plants get the higher the yield.

Yield=# of lights... NOT number of plants.

So for that reason I do not need a mover so that I can use less lights. If I got a mover, I would still use 3 1000w and justget more penetration but just as many lumens.

Ya.. but I am not worried about it not paying for itself.. What I am worried about it how my landlord is going to approach the situation... Will he freak out, or just ask me to help pay the utility bill... Lol, the excitment of mystery!

A 10% lose in yeaild, to save $300 a month, 10% is alot of weed, when dealing with 1000 watters.

ten percent isnt a lot when i almost double my yield becuz my light footprint went from a 4x4 to a 4x8 space. i still get more weed than i would without the rail with the same amount of power and lights. so ur logic is flawed my man. if u have the extra space and cant afford extra lights and power and want more yield a rail is the way to go. ur still growing more weed with the rail than a single stationary light so what was ur point again?

light rail $200,
ebay 600 watt hps $160.

If plants dont need lots of light, why do people use 1000 watters in sted of small cfl's????

I guess i need to start unpluging all my lights, i was under the impresion that the light played a big factor in the growth of the plants. maybe run 150 watt cfl on a light rail in a 4x8 CO2 injected flower room, that would solve my heat problem from all those HID lights that give off too much light

i never said plants dont need a lot of light. i said they dont use 100 percent of the light that hits them at all times. its called photosynthesis. look it up. the plant only uses a portion of the light that hits it at one time. its not continually collecting light. it has to process the light its gathered first before actually collecting more light. the plants also have adaptations that concentrate or store carbon dioxide. This helps reduce a wasteful process called photorespiration that can consume part of the sugar produced during photosynthesis. This helps reduce a wasteful process called photorespiration that can consume part of the sugar produced during photosynthesis. point being ur plant doesnt use 100% of everything u give it. except water. and as far as using thousands is concerned. when the plant does actually soak up the light it will soak up as much of the light as possible at one time and then convert it then do it again. 1000 watts still helps with density becuz the plant is soaking up a 1000 watts of light at once instead of 600 watts or 400. but thats just a rule of thumb.

if u want to come and just bash on light rails becuz u havent ever used them and dont understand the science behind the rail then feel free. ignorance is bliss. besides its only the opinion of a guy thats never actually used one and experimented with one before thats trying to contradict what im sayin. once u actually use one and do some reading and homework and then have negatives or positives to say about it go for it. but until then is trolling over a light rail really worth it becuz ur going to make urself look stupid without actually saying anything that makes sense or that actually has an intellectual point to it.

do some reading and understanding and comprehending then get baclk to me. wiki should help a little.

$40 savings is your justification in going with more light?

lets say you go with 600's.
2x600 around here will cost me $830/yr in electricity costs.
1x600 on a rail. $420/yr, add in the 200 for a rail like you say. still saving $200 in the first year alone.

you cant even count yield loss into that, as I have not experienced any yield loss with my rail.
numbers fluctuate as i run many different strains, but my average yield has not changed.
light rails take some tuning to your grow, just as ever other change does.

as for hid over cfl. better spectrum from a single source(i hope you can understand what I mean by this), light penetration.

wait were u being a smart ass or were u being a troll? if u were being honest and asking serious questions i apologize.

All i am trying to say is a light mover dosent replace a light. it is a tool to help to get light to all sides of the buds.
