By the time I got to the Big Island, the black sand beach was gone. But i did see the green sand one near South Point. Now that is some awesome terrain. cn

really? the one just past naalehu? that was there just a year or two back.

we never got to the green sand beach though. but we plan on returning.

I dunno Buck, I just did a quick Google search and just looked at the first 3 pages and even city data and some companies consider Sacramento NorCal so I think it's more of a fact rather than opinion.

I just looked it up, and yes; the green sand beach is in a dramatically eroded crater near Na'alehu. But the black sand beach at Kalapana was not available for view back in '96.

I recommend the green sand beach and the somewhat surreal treeless landscape surrounding it. It's like highest Scotland, but pleasant. cn
