Macbook Pro

Just got a new macbook pro today after going a few months without a decent computer. The LCD in my previous laptop went out and if I wanted to use it I'd have plug it into my TV. I had bought it at walmart for $400 and I will never make that mistake again. I decided to fork up the money and go with a mac again and so far I'm pleased with my decision. However I have to get used to the Mac again - and I want to ask the RIU community for any advice you may have. (shortcuts, cool tricks & tips, features).

So is that a brand new MacBook pro for $400? What model. Deff more expense then uk! MacBook pros here start at about £1000. Approx $1200/$1300 I'm guessing approx?

He said his last laptop was $400

I'm guessing he got the 13" macbook for like $1,200... I'd take it back.

Unless you have a specific reason for opting apple, such as a piece of software only available on mac, then well, way to waste your money trying to look cool  I like it though, you bought some crapo for $400 so instead of using common sense you just went and got ripped off buying a mac. And even if mac only software, I've run OSX on my cheap ass better than apple spec computer for years. People make me smile more than is appropriate

This ^ lol

You could be running a desktop with 8 gigs of ram, a quad core i7 processor, a 2 TB hard drive, a better graphics card....
Right on a 27" led screen. Warranty, antivirus, speakers all included.

All for the same price as the basic macbook pro with upgraded 8 gig ram and the protection plan.

That's why i enjoy linux here and there. Throws them a bit of a curve ball :D

It amuses me talking to mac users who then have to be right back while they restart and load up win7 on their mac via bootcamp :D

  • $750

    Dell - Inspiron Laptop / Intel® Core™ i7 Processor / 17.3" Display / 8GB Memory / 750GB Hard Drive - Diamond Black

Intel® HD Graphics 3000c same graphics card found in mac-books it can play heavy games like star craft 2 ( barley)

I would have bought this

the comparable mac is 13" with half the ram $1500

i guess we are being nerdy dicks but stats are stats

this biggest thing i dont understand is why people think different brand are better

Ex: dell/Hp/Mac

All they do is make the case and order the components from other companey dont buy brands buy stats

When buying a big brand pc, as you say Ryan, it's all the same generic unbranded shitty innards in a differently styled cheap steel box. The only reason to chose one over the other is for warranty reasons or for one companies customer service etc.

Made the mistake of buying a Mac once. Never again. It cratered and I lost over $1,000 in software as well as the $2,000+ computer. Called the company for support and they refused to help. They denied any faulty equipment on their part and refused to replace it. After two years of arguing in their forum and the growing number of complaints over the same issue, Apple decided it was their fault. Come to find out, their slave factories in China were putting too much thermal paste and it caused the processors to shut down and eventually burn out.

Up until then I had no clue their factories were in China and then the news reports started coming out about the conditions and suicide rates at the Apple factories. I decided I would never buy an Apple product again. Oh, and they never replaced my computer because too much time had elapsed. So I was shit out of luck. This after fighting for over two years about the problem with them. Fuck Apple. I hope they crash and burn.

I simply won't buy anything apple as their entire business practice now seems to revolve around the concept of applying for any patent they can think of with the view of suing everyone to the point where their products get banned from sale. It's utterly pathetic. I mean hell, they photoshopped images of competitors products in order to make them more in line with the idea of their law suit, such as changing a products dimensions so they can try and sue for it being too similar (samsung tablet for example)

Holy shit a lot of people here really dislike macs. Lemme throw my two cents in since I got roasted left and right lol. I owned a mac for 5 years. 2005-2010 and I loved it. I never had any problems with it until one day I dropped it and cracked the LCD screen. I decided to go the cheap route and purchase a 400.00 HP from walmart that lasted be just over a year. Based on my previous experience I wanted to go back to the Mac. For the trolls out there saying I want to look good at the coffee shop? Go eff off pricks. I do a lot of video editing and apples are my preferred choice when it comes to that. I'm not some hipster that sits at starbucks drinking coffee skying with people. I had my mac laptop for a LONG TIME and I was very happy buying another one. I will not return it as I have no reason to. I make good money and I wanted to throw down on a comp.. and my preference was and is the Mac. I spent under 1,200 and got a $100 gift card as well. I have no problem with windows 7, It's that a lot of these companies are making inferior products (i.e. 400.00 computers) that break down quickly and need to be replaced. I'm sure if I spent 800-1200 I could've gotten a sick ass computer with windows 7, but I have become hesitant since the last one I had. I know my Mac is going to last me a long time.
