My First Grow... Outdoor on tight budget

Did the one in the first two pics turn hermie? It looks like it has bananas sticking out the top.
Hiya Jebus2029,

Nope its still all female... The picture is kinda out of focus, but i checked again with my eyes and each is a small bud with two white hairs sticking out and trichoms around the outside of the small green buds. I check them for male parts every day. But at this point if they do get male parts im going to assume its from stress and not that its a herm. The one herm I did have I cut down like 4 days ago after I had been picking off the male parts with tweezers and keeping the female parts. If I do end up stressing these tiny ladies and I see a male flower start to grow... Im going to try and harvest the pollen and save it so I can make some fem'd seeds. Hopefully if I get that male flower it will only have female chromosomes and therefore only give me female seeds.

Would that work? I thought if you stressed one to the point of turning then all its offspring would be hermie. I haven't really looked into it, but anytime I get shwag and there are male flowers mixed in I never keep the seeds. I've had great results from shwag seeds in the past too.

i think thats how they make the feminised seeds.... self pollenating plants.. they just have a female.. not a hermie.. jsut a female.. and then strees it out just enough so that it produces some pollen sacs.. and then the seed are feminized.. since they are from a female plant.. not a hermie plant.. but obviously.. any feminized seeds are more prone to being hermie than regular seeds

Ya, thats the idea, but it is best to save the pollen from a female plant that has a male flower and breed it with a different female plant so you dont get inbred seeds that have problems.

The female plant that makes a male flower... usually only has the X chromosome instead of the Y chromosome in true male flowers... Then if you cross that X chromosome with another female flower on a different plant you get complete XX chromosomes in your seeds, but if its a true male flower you get XY chromosomes in your seeds so they can become either male or female plants.

Herms I believe have a XXY or XYY set of chromosomes, and therefore can transfer the herm or female or male trait.

nice pics man!! glad to see theyre doing good!! still waiting fdor any signs of life from my seedling!!
Yea, I get impatient waiting for my seedling to sprout up so i keep the seed above the soil and bury the tap root under it. I used to bury the entire seed (tap root sprouted), but keeping the seed above the soil seems to make them work less hard to pop out of the soil.

The most recent seedling I planted shed its seed in less then 24 hours and has is green leaves stretching for light already.

I've read a ton of journals on here and found that i'm the only one or one of the few people that do keep the seed above soil with the tap root buried... Ive tried the other ways people suggest... most of them just bury the entire seed and try to point the seed up with the root down.

My way just eliminates the 24 hours it takes for a seed to break through the soil. YOU MUST WATER GENTLY... or you risk up rooting your seedlings.

The 2 remaining seeds ive had in the bag have not poped out the tap root yet. The 5 seeds I had in the shot glass and moved to a wet paper bag still have not poped out the tap root yet. I placed them in the sun light, still covered by the wet bag so they could warm up today. Hopefully this warmth they got today will get them to pop their tap roots.

This one is probably still shocked from up-rooting its self and being re-planted. I dont know if it will make it a week, but im going to try and keep it going best I can.

Just got back from the Dollar store... Picked up some nutrients im going to try out. Got each for a dollar.

Im going to mix the liquid stuff with the water I give them and not stick the entire thing in the soil.
Im going to start out with just a few drops per watering and see how one of them responds. If it likes it im going to start doing the same thing the the other plants. Then later ill try uping the concentration on the first plant i experiment with and going through the process over again.

The sticks im going to cut in half and just try one half out side. I might try and dissolve some sticks into water and feed them that way. Still thinking about it...

I think dissolving a stick in water to feed them would kill them. Those sticks are meant to be consumed over a long period of time. I'd recommend getting some compost and making tea. It's relatively cheap and easy to do. Plus you will be avoiding harsh chemicals. I think I got a large bag of composted cow manure for about $6 at Lowe's, and I've only gone through about half in a month. I've even been using it as part of my mix in my potting soil. You can really stretch it out pretty nicely as long as you aren't wasteful with it.

just went through this thread and tht outdoor plant looks good. And for that inside grow , i cant believe nobody said this yet...but please get rid of the aluminum foil because it will burn your plants and could kill them , if you want reflective walls then just paint it with Flat White Paint or use Mylar which looks like aluminum foil you can get them at any hardware store i believe ... Good luck with your grow man! hope you get a nice harvest..peace
