My run in with the cops

If I could get over the cold... I would go back to the Twin Cities.
I love that place. It's like 8 cities in one. People in the midwest are great. I love a good midwest dive bar... you see a 22 yr old crust punk doing shots with a 60 yr old lawyer like they grew up together.
Here... social gathering is segregated by your status and style of dress.

What's fun about going out and hanging out with your clones? I just stay home these days, other than events with the gardening community.

That should do it...
I have not been to Mystic Lake in almost 10 yrs. It was the first casino I had ever been too.
They let you in at 18...
The horse track down the road was going to put in slot machines until the Shakopee band payed them off.

Well played... People throw money into those slots... at scratch ticket odds... I never understood why. I guess they were intimidated by the card tables filled by Asians, hustling in packs.

If that's your type of place, go to Liquor Lyles in Minneapolis. It gets all types. At least it did a few years ago. I can't see it changing since that's the reason people went there.

It's something else now, but were you ever at Stand Up Franks in Minneapolis?

Never at Stand Up Franks...
I went to the Trophy Lounge, the Triple Rock (bloody marys and greasy breakfast) and quite a few music venues. Used to go see the Kung Fu Hippies a bit at this shitty bar on Huron, I think? I know the bar changed names while I was there... It was a wide hallway with a stage, pretty much.

I worked at the Lexington for a while. Lived in East St Paul (S McKnight), then in Lauderdale (right between the cities, N of 94).

When I go back to the midwest I always try to fly into the Twin Cities and hangout for a day.

... mashed potato pizza from Pizza Luce. every time.

I don't know how I forgot to mention the jazz clubs...

That cold wet stink hole by the WTC... the Artist's Corner.

Then for (inter)national acts, the Dakota.

I lived there right around the time Nachito Herrera (Cuban Jazz Piano) came over (with his whole family) from Cuba to live in St Paul. Having that guy around was fucking amazing.

Terry Burns, Mike Elliot, Pete Whitman... soooo many good musicians in the Twin Cities. The only city in the US that can hang with New York, imo.

My sister grew up in Roseville.

Ever check out any bands at First Ave.? Best place in the city to see a live show.

Yeah, First Ave was probably the best venue. There were quite a few great ones though. I can't even remember the names of so many of them... I'm sure the names have changed since anyway... they were constantly changing ownership and names.

I love little places like Roseville... it's like, you're in Roseville, drive 5 minutes East, now you are in another town, 5 minutes east another. Lauderdale and Roseville... pretty much the same thing, as I remember it. Just different schools... maybe a different Rainbow or Cub.

Yeah, there are a lot of great places to see live music there. 7th Street Entry is another favorite. Well, it used to be 20 years ago...man I'm getting old.

I used to live in the apartments behind Lyle's ... The bouncers would bring me home about 3 nights a week. Good times. -- At Mortimer's, you can order a "really big glass" of beer, and get a pitcher.

If I ever lived behind Lyle's, I'd be living under a bridge right now. LOL!

I did not... I'm not sure why.
Aside from after hours alcohol runs to Wisconsin we never went East much. Haha. My one trip to Apple River ended in a trip to the hospital before we got there. So, I missed out on that one too.

I did take a drive from 94 x the Mississippi to Dubuque... that was a nice drive. I tried to keep as close to the river as possible the whole drive.

I also miss the Lakes, dearly. I spent much more time on Lakes in Iowa than MN. When I was in Iowa I had a boat and less city activities going on. I used to be able to squeeze in an hour or two of shore fishing before going to work. That was really nice. I liked Crappie fishing in coves on small lakes. Catfish in farm ponds. The electric motor only small lakes were so nice. Clean. Weekend trips to the big lakes like Rathbun were fun too though.

We camped out on Rice Lake in MN a few times... no fishing. Good times with a canoe though.

I hear ya about the lakes. I miss ice fishing the most. I could do it here, but it's not the same.

I have to drive 4 hours East of my current location to get to a lake that I would feel comfortable eating out of.

Fishing the surfs, jetti and bays in saltwater has been a nice trade off though. Red drum are great fish to go on a plate. It is a bit of an ordeal to get there though... especially beach fishing.

It took me a solid year just to learn how to effectively fish off the beach. I do enjoy it quite a bit though. Very peaceful if you can find a good spot free of trash. A buddy with a landrover solves that problem.
