Never Had Luck With Cuttings/Clones

I'm hoping to take some cuttings from my best performing Blue Dream soon. I've used the humidity domes, rapidrooters, clonex, still I usually wind up getting mold or they just die. I've watched so many videos, read so many articles and books, but still I've just never had luck.

I'm hoping someone can help me out here. Tell me everything you do exactly how you do it, and I will try to follow that and see if I have any luck. I will give credit where credit is due.

Mold? Are the plants in light or the dark? Also then open a vent on the dome and open mist when needed

when you cut the stems go all the way around with the blade and take off the outter layer, dip in clonex ex and stick in peat pellet. it helps to put rapid start in the water for the peat pellets.

its "funny" first time I made a clone, I had made a bit of pruning and was left over with a few nice shoot`s but nothing to clone em with, placed em in a normal cup with plain tap water in the window shelf and forgot about em, 2 weeks or so later I had a cup full of roots with very little water but nice healthy clones I grew in to harvest

since then I have had a few successes with the same method, tho under some fluorescent light so I don't forget em

Ooh yea btw since I now have the hydrogen peroxide/H2O2 around and did a bit of research on the subject, I also use a drop or two in the cup as well, and cover the top of the Cup with a plastic lid

no clonex or anything like that and a RH on 35-45%

keep it simple, and most important use/get a strain that react positive to cloning, some is almost impossible to clone, some you cant hardly stop (like mine I guess)

Yep shouldn't have mold.

I use clonex, rockwool and a prop tray and dome under t5s.

First select your and clip her off. Next you want to take a razor or knife an thinly slice the stem in a downward motion kinda as if you were sharpening a pencil with a blade. I would make sure at least a 1/2 inch of this is done. Next get that clonex coated, I like to rub it in with my finger makes sure it's covered well. Not dripping covered, just evenly covered with a decent amount.
Next thing I do is plant them deep in the rockwool(I soak the rockwool in 5.5ph adjusted water for 10 seconds) , leaving about a quarter inch or so from the bottom. This usually requires me to make the premade hole in the rockwool a little deeper first. You don't want to damage the root jamming it in there. Then I place them in the tray with the dome closed for a day or 2. Then as I can visibly see the moisture building up and the walls of the dome I start to open the dome.

Next step is patience, treat the clone like a seedling, only water when the rockwool is dry, and add a little nutes in the first time you feed. Clones take longer then seeds.

Well, the mold was a result of high humidity and not enough air flow.

I'm an expert at TAKING cuttings, it's just getting them to stay alive long enough to root, lol.
Dtown and Slipon, I like your advice. I will try to do as you guys recommend unless I get something else that strikes my fancy, lol.

At first I was just messing around putting cuttings in water under fluoro's and after success's with that I spent some coin on some cloning powder and then the gels and then I finally built myself a clone machine out of a small tub and pieces you can pick up at a hydro store or on-line. The whole thing is to never get discouraged and give up, you will pick up some techniques that work for you. I think a tray with a proper dome and some cloning solution, powder, or gel is probably the easiest. Take cut at 45 degree angle, from 1/2 inch from bottom lightly scrape the tougher outer layer of stem off, cut stem up the middle to where you stopped shaving to give more surface area for the solution to work on, take the leaf tips off to slow persperation, dip the bottom of cutting up to where you stopped shaving and let it soak till you count to 10 mississippi and put in rockwool or rapid rooter gently as to not rub off the cloning powder or gel and when it's inserted in the pre made hole gently squeeze the sides in to make contact with the cutting and fix her into place where she will remain in the humidity dome and tray for about 12-18 days depending on how fast she roots. I keep mine at 90% RH, keep everything spotless and mist 2 times a day. Clonex, root riot cubes and Get 75-100% success under 1 or 2 23w cfl's. Are you sure you aren't using too much light?.

A very important step that no one has mentioned, is to put your cuttings IMMEDIATELY into a cup of water as soon as you take it and let it sit in there for at least 30 mins. before continuing your cloning process.

This will prevent air from getting trapped in the walls of your stems which will cause your stem to rot and die.

totally agree, I did a bit of research as I said, so I actually take the cutting and cut it in a 45 degree angle in the cup of water, so I have a fresh cut made under the water

also, I make sure I have atleast one set of leave points (leaves is of course removed) so it have more points to set root`s so to speak

i have better luck with rw cubes than rr as i find it easier to get the rw to the right moisture content. saturate then cup in hand or set in big gulp cup, and swing arm over tub. ends up being just damp. i only spray my clones if they are starting to sag. i use ph'd ro with a bit of kelp meal or a couple drops mof grow, and with or without cloning powder im almost 100%. the thing is not to let them get too wet, too dry will make them sag but too wet will kill them. gl

I might be. I was pretty careful about it though. I had one batch near a window and it only got indirect sunlight. Another batch I had near my area 51-350 which I thought would be plenty. Idk. I guess I just need to get a cfl like everyone else and use that.

Any opinions on light times.....like 24/0 or 18/6.

For me Ive had better results with the 18/6 then 24/0.

here is some advice 100% sure to work.....don't give up!! I don't know how many cuttings I killed before I had a rooted cutting.....there are as many ways to clone as there are people who do it......i have settled on a aeroponic approach with a home made rubbermaid tub and sprinkler with no dome, sprinkler is on a 15 minute on off schedule roots in 5-10 days, no rooting powders just clear water.....remember mother nature will give up her secrets to you but you must pay the dues first! good luck

Personally I run my clones on the same schedule as my vegging plants 20/4. I think they can use a rest but need that light to get proper roots quick enough to stay healthy. Just how I like to do it. Peace out.

I've thought very seriously about making exactly the same thing. We probably got plans from the same website. It works well for you I take it.

bro im a str8 newb at bubbleponics but have cloned 4 outta 5 sucessfully with clonex....im doin mine in a trey in rockwool jus very low nute soloution with an airstone bubbling water ....i cut put str8 in clonex for 3 to 5 minute dip then into a presoaked rockwool cube in bubbler trey...and 2 were ak47 2 were shiskaberry....one that died or didnt take root was blue dream...dnt know if strain matters much or not but anyhow keep at bro if ur like me it ll drive you crazy till ur able to conquer happy growin bro

Strain does matter,Ive had some I could just cut and plant,then some that are a bitch!!
Autos now thats one Id like to see someone clone....
