New Evidence in Michael Brown Case

CLAYTON • A stream of eyewitnesses has been testifying in secret before a grand jury considering whether to indict police officer Darren Wilson in the fatal shooting of Michael Brown near the Canfield Green apartments in Ferguson.
One Canfield resident — who said he saw the killing of Brown from start to finish and talked to the grand jury recently — has given the Post-Dispatch an account with some key differences from previous public statements from other witnesses.
Among the recollections of the witness, who agreed to an interview on the condition that his name not be used, were:
• After an initial scuffle in the car, the officer did not fire until Brown turned back toward him.
• Brown put his arms out to his sides but never raised his hands high.
• Brown staggered toward Wilson despite commands to stop.
• The two were about 20 to 25 feet apart when the last shots were fired.
He would not detail what he had told the grand jury but said the members seemed fair and asked a lot of questions.
Witnesses have given differing accounts since the white officer killed the unarmed black teen Aug. 9, triggering protests, riots and national attention.

there we go. that gets a little closer to the relevant part.

i'm still not convinced that a kid staggering 20 to 25 feet away with his arms out is a threat worth using lethal force on, but it doesn't really matter except for our discussion here.

if the cops that got away with beating rodney king walked, then what is gonna happen here should be obvious.

20-25 feet is less than from my dining room to the front wall.
If I perceive you as a threat at that distance your getting plugged.
Go get a tape measure
measure out 25 feet, then have your wife run at you from that distance. How far away is that now?

25 feet is the length of my old greenhouse, someone STAGGERING from that distance might take a while.

Brown isn't on trial

Way are you presuming he was on his knees?
I don't know if he was or not.

I was saying the cop would have been within his rights to kill him when he attached the cop.

But not when he was 30 feet away and unarmed.

When are you going to realize that the cops aren't ever going to be found guilty? The police force would cease to exist as it is the day they find one of them guilty of murder.

People say 25 feet like its a huge distance, it's only 7m.

Seven fucking metres, that's only about 4x the average mans reach and Brown was a lot bigger than average.

Another thing is people envision this as the cop shooting the gun and the gun is going:
Bang ........ Bang....... Bang..... Bang
It's more like

powpowpowpowpow

white, black, brown or purple. All races are subject to these things. Some choose to riot and destroy because of it. It is what it is. BTW, any chance these leaks were from the just-us department? The fact this young man reached into the car seems to tell his intentions.

Actually, the report says he staggered towards the officer with his arms out by his sides.
good thing you corrected my slight mistake on the placement of his arms rather than red's whopper of a lie.

kinda tells me what i already knew about you.

Defensive handgun training teaches that 7 meters is as close as you let an attacker get before you start shooting; that is standard practice and training.

Having said that, I am on the fence about this incident. It is clear that Mr. Brown started the fight by trying to take the cop's gun. What is not clear is whether Brown was trying to surrender or charging the cop after the initial assault inside the car. Right now, I am leaning toward this shooting, the shots that occurred after the initial inside-the-car shooting, being unjustified. That's what happens in an adrenaline-filled situation like this though.

My guess is that a jury would acquit the cop, and a grand jury will not indict. Like the Zimmerman trial, though, it is going to be politically difficult not to charge and try this cop.
