How many do I want, say for the whole room? Let's say I'm filling up the space to the brim, 10-12 plants. How many would I need?

Not worth it for 10-12 plants, you definately want HID (high intensity discharge) lighting...the MH and HPS they were talking about before...
I mean, you're getting in over your head maybe...lol...Ok, so if you wanna use the big boy lights...you're gonna need some sorta ventilation system, drawing out the hot air and pulling fresh cool air in...
Ok, you you wanna do it all with CFL's? Well, it's gonna take like 20-30 individual CFL's to do like 10 plants probably, and thats gonna create a lot of heat as well, so you're still gonna need some sorta ventilation system in the works...

I see you have a window fan, I'm using one too, but you're gonna need to seal off that room, and cut some intake holes in towards the bottom for it to be effective, then you're gonna need to keep the AC turned down real cool once you have that room filled with CFL's...a room that size, we're talking at least 30 x 100w equivalant (23-26 ACTUAL watts a piece), and thats gonna be almost 800 watts, factoring in the energy draw from the built in ballasts.

Yeah, a 400w metal halide would go well in there, but you need a fixture and ballast...those don't go in regular light sockets. And they need a special ballast to start up. And they don't sell the ballasts at Lowes of Home Depot, just the bulbs...and if you're gonna order online I could point you in a better direction...

So, if I use just one MH and one HPS would that be enough? Including fixture and ballast, what kind of price am I looking at?

About 300 bucks total for one 400w MH and one 400w HPS, and to fill that room you wanna run them both at the same time. But you're gonna need a REAL extraction fan, and probably a bunch of other stuff...the list will never end, and once you start buying shit for your grow, you won't stop...lol

For now is until I can scrape together enough to get some CFLs, seeing as it's gonna cost around 60 bucks for me to get enough light in that room with CFLs. I'm broke at the moment, so until at least next tuesday.

Gonna cost you more than 60 bucks if you wanna use CFL's for the whole room...those socket adapters are a buck a piece at walmart, and the "Y" adapters are $2.50+ depending on where you go...and 30 CFL's are gonna cost a bundle, and you need the power strips and grounded extension cords...
Or do you mean till you can get like 8 CFL's together to keep them growing till you get the 300 bucks for the MH and HPS?? Either way, it's gonna cost money to fill that room with plants.

The second option is most likely. I'll try and do what I can with what I got til I can get the MH and HPS, will these shitty growlights hold me over til then? I really don't want to pay 200 bucks a month on the light bill for a few plants, ya know?
