New to indoor grow Journal

Journal entry 10/01/09 Tent, lighting, soil at the ready.

Okay yes! I am a newbe to the indoor grow, have done outdoor grows years ago and played with indoor an in the closet but gotta say never liked! I have been reading listening and learning from some of the best grows right here at RIU.

But gotta say it looks great here is the setup so far just need the product to grow now.

The tent toke me alone alst night about 2 hours to setup, I have the lights, a 400 wtt HPS and a some CLF's that should work together.

I powered each light and had a looked at the electric meter, timing it on it's spin for normual house hold use, is at about 26 seconds, and with cfl's alone about 23 seconds, add the 400 wtt 19 seconds, I'll have to look at some other appliances that can be discounted to help keep the bill low.

I have the tote with all the parts but the inline fan for the 4 day dryer will build the dryer after fan arrives so I can try it with some of the outdoor plant that I will harvest soon.

Soil Supersoil and Organic and 6 planter pots for now! seeds arrived 20 free not sure if there skunk also? from my purchase of 10 seeds of Moroccan Skunk, time to check out threads on the best ways of germinating but! probadly doesn't matter?anybody have any thoughts ?.

4 day dryer? whats that?

You'll find it somewhere on the indoor grow thread, it's a home made design to dry your harvest in 4 days, at lease that's what is claimed, so I bought the parts and am building one and we'll see, that's if everything comes together righ an that's not just building it you know what I mean.

Testing all lights ON for a few hours or so to check for heating problems see if venting fans are needed, and power needs, while seeds germinate I can have everything set and ready to have a smooth as possible grow, and worry about growing fast somewhere along the way.

Finished 4 Day Dryer under 2 hours and a little blood, I ran out of wood dowel so made some modifications and used PVC for the top and added 1/2" hole to make up for air flow space, also made a small adjustment to the fan attachment, set it up so it can be dettached from the tote, added a grid to the inside of duct to catch anything that may fall to the bottom and get sucked in, I use expanable duct since already had that.

Wait for fan.

Finish built dryer just under 2 hours. What do ya think.

Cool had a yard sale today and sold shit I didn't need to order a bubblopince system or maybe ebb & flow, the system looks like the plants can grow a bit bigger.

Does anybody have any input on the ebb & flow system verses bubleponics or are they basically the same?

Researching hydroponics, aeoroponics, bubleponics so forth, yes research is a must no question. I have found you have to research the systems! it would be fruitless not to, they all have one thing common the delivery of nutrients, type of nutrient, ph and speeding up the grow process along with other verses other factors to the benifit the grow for high quality result's.

I'm not fooled and can see it's not going to be as easy as it may seem that's agreed, but on the other hand they claim the systems and promote them to be! Easy to work with, Ya okay going to see for my self and post resutls here.

During my search I did find a half a dozen different tpye's of hydro/aeoro an so on systems and during my search I ran across this advertistment for a ebb & flow system and l'm considering it for the future, but check it out first what's your opinion! this system uses something different for a grow medium claiming it takes 36 seconds to set each pot up, http://www.discount-hydro.com/productdisp.php?navid=4&pid=18 be sure to check the video out.

Now I am into building my own to save money, but I understand since in my field of business you have to come up with disigns or be able to improvise and think on your feet to come up with a solution and that takes time and and has a expense attached, I never under estimate a task and that is my motto and realize that it can be a wast of time and at a major expanse.

Bubleponics
Here's the thing I had a yard sale over the weekend and happy to say it will not be a out of pocket expense made enough to buy the SH system I want, with all the necessary extras! to start with, but I will reseach anyway and study what I can, an READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!!! ask question! google, and most important! us the forums right here on RIU as much as possible.

Once I have the system, I'll be able take the time to study it, backwords design it (make a copy) since I'll have one on hand, but as far as I know we all start with little to no knowledge on anything we want to know about or take up in doing I have had to teach my self plenty in the past 10 years at the lest I will enjoy this much more Ya!

I look forword to sharing my experience's you and with those who are new to RIU and growing and sharing with those who will lend advise on the following adventures.

I started seed germanation last night about 9:30pm 10/3/09 2 M skunk and 3 of the free 20 seeds from purchase still have see if I can find out what tey are pot luck looks like though. and planning to start with soil in 3 gal pot's. I have everthing set to go and thought I would start some off now once I get the SH system and get that going, see if it can catch up and pass the soil grow which I'm sure it can.

Hey np...welcome to the wonderful world of indoor growing...It's addicting! I swear! You'll never go outdoors again (well, until next season). Looks like you have a nice set up going there...Kudos on the DIY herb dryer...I'd like to see how that turns out...

Also, don't spend the extra ching on the ready made Bubbleponic system when you can easily assemble it together in a matter of minutes...
I set mine up in less than 45 mins with a 4 site 6 gallon res

I transplanted into my bubbleponic system only 3 days ago and have seen a huge difference in speed of growth...i topped one of my plants yesterday, and it's already fully recovered and the shoots are coming!!! Check out my thread in my sig...seeing iis believing!

Tents ready and looking for any adjustments to be made, have seeds germanating, am looking into 48" cfl tube lighting for extra lighting but have a 400wtt at the ready.

Thanks for the worm welcome, yes I am looking foreword to getting started, can you clarify! built one in 45 min, did you order parts from site and store buy the rest, can you explain a little more, because I though Roseman said not to wast time bulding one and recommends the site am I wrong? I'll take a look again just not sure where I saw that maybe someone else.

read the first 6 or 7 pages of the thread i put in up above and that'll expain everything in detail what you need, prices, how to build, etc,...its too long for me to ellaborate in detail the way roseman spells it out for us bubbleheads...

Okay just playing around I attached to venting fan that has 3 speeds! hay it was just wasting pace so it's now has a use seems to work well enough, check it out!

I was also thinking you could set a temp controlled heater near the dryer in a small space, set heater temp to come on around 70 to 80, that way it dry's in small amounts, should take a day off on dry time maybe, just not sure about putting a bulb in it to heat it up.

I wanted to get started so I have 2 new clone babies 1 is a OG Kush and 1 UK Cheese, M.skunk seeds germamating and 3 unknown from a 20 free with purchase of 10 seed's.

Got them in soil and added a of transplant juice, using cfl combo for now.

I have a sick baby UK cheese clone she's has developed some brown spots on her leave's, anyboby know what is needed to make her feel better.

what nutes are you using?

All 3 of the free 20 popped and are in pot's and the 2 M. Skunk popped all are in pot's and under the light's, forgot to take pictures showing them before going in the soil Opp's, but as soon as they are showing good I'll post them, now it's wait and watch to find out if there any males.

Are you sure you have enough light for that size tent?

Not completely sure! but if I work with just a few plants between 6 to 12 as they grow I will need to add light to the plants, but hell it's a confined space 6' x 6' x 6', one would think you can only put so much light to the subject to fill the space, I'm working on using a mix of the 400wtt and cfl's, to keep the electric bill down.

Also I was thinking maybe the 400 watt does'nt need to be on all the time, say simulating a typical summer day, use the cfl's for the most part then have the 400 watt hps come on into the mix for 5 to 7 hours every day to simulate the brighter warmer part of the day then cool down again with 400 watt shutting down, back to just the cfl's a cycle that's generally how a summer day goes anyhow! cool in the morning then warming up through the day to the hottest part of the day then cooling back down again then shorting that cycle during the flowering cycle, not to say this may inspire grow or is even is a good idea, I haven't got into the bones of lighting completely just yet! so this is just off the top of my head and just an idea inspired though this site, it got me thinking if your going this far why not simulate the climate or the day rather than just shine the right amounts of light on the plants.

But that how I think just gotta read up more on lighting, hydroponics, and many other things you know, the whole ball of wax thing, I already had a bad experince with may outdoor grow and lost most to all of it to infestation and mold due to some uncontrollable issue's so in door I grow, maybe give it a try again next summer.

Hay I've just became a bublehesd! well not quite yet I just ordered a system today and hopefully will get it in a week or so.

Also got some extra cfl lighting and double suckets and air duct hay under $10 4" x 8' at home depot, gotta work on a lighting rig, and 2 x 48" natural full spectrum sunlight 2200 lumems 40 watts 5000k/92% color spectrum .

Thinking maybe doing a small clone area in a closet or something with LED lighting.
