Just read all this great info and wow what a difference the RW150 compared to the onyx panel, the yield difference was massive which totally suprises me cause the onyx panel has quite a bit more wattage. Thanks for the thread capt and all the work you put into it. Looking forward to seeing the bare onyx panel results.

So it dropped a lot of intensity with no panel, but did it boost the numbers/make the footprint bigger? I am assuming it did if you had to drop it 8-9" lower to get the same focused uMole levels. I am not as good with this stuff, but is my thinking along the right path?

It definitely lost penetration but seems to be covering the plant well and should work well for this grow style,I'm optimistic about the yield from what the plant looks like now but only time will tell.

Do you ever use mulch? A layer over the top with that wick system? :weed:

I read on there they put nutes in the res? Not organic though correct?

Just starting my first run with it,I'll have to do some more research on what can be used in the res without going sour. I added a air stone to the res but they say it's not required.

Yeah in that link I posted they delt with leftover residue and general unpleasantness if they water teas while the smarties were in the res, so they removed them to apply teas.

I figure you could just topdress instead, but EWC teas are a must so idk.

They said there were water roots, idk the scientific name, in the perlite res similar to hempy buckets. The plants did not seem to show any ill effects if the roots were pulled from the perlite res to give teas though. Hope it works out well for you.

Smart move adding an airstone to the res CM..............no matter what the marketing says

A little pricey for what it is=====self watering containers are nothing new TBH
 
Thanks for those numbers Cap! Looks like with the lenses on is more suitable for a smaller footprint or grow space such as my 2x2.5. Cool deal.

I got my 6 gal one for $39 locally. Yea I've seen a bunch of different types but I know a long time grower that has grown with soil and used a bunch of different hydro types and he tried one and switched his whole garden over to these a couple years ago and has been bugging me to try one.
 
Looks very similar to alaska grow buckets -- alaskagrowbuckets.com -- in how it functions. I'm about to give the ALBs a shot -- I essentially landed on something very similar through various trials and the ALBs improve on what I came up with.
 
ten gallon under bed tub with a smart pot or 5g bucket drilled with
holes and lined with weed blocker fabric. i like the idea, and the price
isn't too crazy for a 6g hybrid hydro container.
