potato bugs in Cali

Saw this guy the other day and when I went back to take pics he was gone. But today it looks like he's comming to the end of his life cycle. Swear I never hurt him, lol. Too scarey to even get close when he was walking around but now that he is vulnerable he struck a pose.

Do they bite? As a kid they seemed alot bigger than they do now, but I would run like hell back then just in case they ran after me, lol.

Should I still be scared?

Fugly real ugly, did you run when you saw the pic?

Do you have em in the bay area?

Ive seen em every now and then. You know they can get frozen for like years and you can thaw em out and they will be alive?

They have a VERY painful bite. It's not venomous, but I hear it hurts like a MOTHER FUCKER.

I heard that the bite is painful but never actually knew anyone that got bit. I thought my mom was trying to scare me when she said that they bite. Never saw one of these things when I lived in WA, but thought of them often.

They sure do look like a potato.

Perhaps this thing is ready for hibernation because it was moving real slow. Went out there later the same day and he went somewhere else, hmmmm. Wonder where they hide. I knew we could freeze a bee but never headr of it with a jeruselum bug.

He is still alive but on his back now, caught him on film. I'm shakey though but you can still see him movin. Hope this clip doesn't make you dizzy.
