Quality LED light besides LUMATEK to replace a 600w HPS?

I'd go cob Timber grow lights are awesome or Qb's hard to go past HLG 550. Im running both I rate them also running some samsung led strips for veg. Good luck
I had my heart set on Timber's 4VL however DiyLedsUK told me "Timber make great products but COBs are 2 years out of date and vastly outperformed nowadays"

The next blow was the the lumateks are simply too damn wide for me (need a light no more than 33 inches wide)

Hi @FadedGrapes

I saw your post and wanted to comment. While everyone has their opinion on the matter, COBs are still very much relevant and represent a large part of the evolution of MH lighting to LED, especially in large scale installations, like warehouses.

COBs produce the same light that any other light does - it's the way the light photons are presented at the canopy that differs between COBs, Mid-power diodes and HID style lights like HPS and CMH.

COBs penetrate much better than bar/board style diodes which is why they are used in high bay applications, tunnels, etc. Bar style/boards which use mid-power diodes need to be placed much closer to the object intended to illuminate, but will provide very even light spread due to the nature of their layout.

There is no one size fits all approach, which is what i am attempting to illustrate. We also now offer a mid-power diode bar style light for those that are in height compromised areas, or prefer a closer canopy style of operation. We intend on continuing with our COB lineup for a long time to come as well. That said, a 4VL should match or outperform most 600W HID style lights, arguably with better light spread too.

Hope this helps - chime in with any questions!

Have a good day.

Thanks much,
Dan

This is clearly partially false information. What is the recommended distance to canopy on all of the newer HLG 600 / 650 lights and their Shady China company knockoff's?

Maybe you can clarify something in the current market though - what are the most "efficient" cobs currently available and what is their µmole/watt? :peace:

That looks awesome. Does it produce a lot of heat?
No the slim doesn't but I have an optic 8+ also and that produces alot of heat. I have had a few buds an inch away from the slim and they didn't burn.

Im also running co2 and using stout, by alchemist momosilicic acid.
