What did you not understand? The Soviet Union never achieved communism, let alone Marx's view of socialism. They did however transition from abject poverty before and during Lenin to a state capitalist system filled with Soviet propaganda. The same is true of China and the other usual suspects who became authoritarian capitalist states under the guise of a transition to eastern socialism to appease the lay people who didn't know any better. The Kibbutz in Israel on the other hand has achieved a very successful model of communism, but it's a unique form which would not appeal to the few Marxists that are still around today.
