Since I have limited space to select plants for F2 generations I simply have to do more runs to find the better plants in the F1. Putting the IH (ICExCH) cross on ice for a while considering its low stress resistance, and will be looking for more P ("a Chunk" x CH) F2 candidates. Besides the obvious desirable traits, need a whorled male to cross with P#1 or possibly another whorled female if any. I got mother/clones of the P#1 (tri-whorled), P#5 (fasciated) and the P#6 (sativa dom but not strong whorled), so basically of all the P plants I got in flower now. If I find better next round they all die except the fasciated which I'm going to keep around for as long as I can. At some point I will flower the best of the best together.

Popping them per 7 for now. 1 seedling is removed very early (the slowest weakest least frosty) leaving 6 for a small DWC box. Goal is to have 6 whorled P for next round in flower closet, which may take a while.

Anyway, pic journal, here's the pics :)

Hey budolskie,

4 is best imo on 3x3 and a system like this. I ran 6 in 3x4 before this closet and it got to full every time. I now got 6 on 4x4 and still get it full easily. I tried 9, but I like to veg at least a bit to get thick stems but it goes so fast on hydro, also during transition that goes on, so 9 was too much.

45ltr should do nicely, that's about 3 gallon per plant, which is close, but enough. Keep in mind you don't fill the reservoir entirely. You will need a minimum of roughly 2.5gal per plant, so you need to be able to fill it with at least 38liter, and still have some height left in the reservoir for the return waterfall.

Mine is only a little larger than 45ltr, for 6 plants, but I have a small sort of dam at the end of my tubes (to keep flow level up to bottom of net cups), so there's more in my tubes than regular NFT.

Most important thing is being able to keep the temperature down (18-20C). Unless you plan on getting a chiller (I use one) I suggest building the reservoir into a sort of double floor in the closet, so it doesn't get warm from the light (although with 400w that's less of a prob than with 600w). Can save a lot of problems later on. Also make sure it's all lightproof, so no light gets in the hydro system (rez and tubes). Start with just simple nutes first round, no (or very little) additives, just some hydro AB or GHE floraduo for example (I highly recommend H&G Aqua Flakes AB).

Let me know when you get that thread up and I'll take a look, but if you have more questions you can post them here or in the ongoing 'conversation' as well.

Thanks man. Yes, still H&G + GHE Floraduo Bloom. I switched from H&G Hydro AB to H&G Aqua Flakes AB a couple of weeks ago, which is pretty much the same but for recirculating and supposedly of slightly better quality.

350ppm in total, of which over half is (quality, free micro) tap water. In practice what I do is 1 cap of A, 1 cap of B, 1 cap of GHE and the size of the cap depends on what bottle I last opened... That's at the refresh. Every other day I add some GHE Bloom, sometimes a little AB depending how PH behaves (not enough N in GHE Bloom alone to keep it stable throughout uptake) and how far they are in the cycle.

Of course, there's an optimal ratio that would work better, but without the ability to measure the NPKs individually... The setup I use (recirculating) prevents any N from leaching (like it would in soil or a dtw system like coco/hempy) which requires me to use an NPK with lower N to prevent hem from getting too dark quickly. So I basically try to maximize PK uptake while keep N at a minimum (but still plenty). It's kinda what the lucas formula is about as well. He noticed the micro bottle contains enough N to be used in combination with bloom and 'grow' wasn't needed. The A component of H&G AB contains most of the N, but I don't want to use less A than B, so I use GHE floraduo bloom instead of some A and B to get a similar soup.

Just for the record and reference... one of my preveg boxes. No recommendation, just what I do:

pv1.jpg
^^filled till close under net cup. 300-350ppm (including 200ppm tap) Little bit of Cannazym.

Germinated in rockwool, on a bed of clay pebbles:

1 layer of clay pebbles in the net cup:

I normally use Grodan, not this cheap white label shit:

pv5.jpg
^tip discolored from pebbles.

So I basically sink the tap root in between the pebbles through a bottom hole in the net cup. Haven't broken a single one yet during the process (out of many dozens).

Filled with pebbles (not too many on the sides of the cube). Unfortunately grow shops here haven't discovered neoprene inserts yet...

pv8.jpg

I've let them stretch a little more than usual by keeping them more than the usual 1 inch from my 3x18watt T8 tubes (else I got too little space to check the sprayers in the tubes later on).

pv9.jpg

There's 1 small air stone in it, only bubbles in about 1/6th of the surface. Temps range from 70-80f. Never had probs. Leaves on the right is from the motherplant of P#1A and P#1B in posts above. Has been there for months. If anything, it helps keeps the rez healthy.

looking great sativied, hope you don't mind if i pull up a chair. :D
Thanks RB, and sure, don't mind at all. :)

And thanks again Asmallvoice. Honestly, quality of the pics is 99% the camera and 1% me. I use a 42megapixel SLR as a point-and-shoot camera and with 42mp there's usually an area in the photo that is good :D

Although the grow is serving its purpose quite well (testing the 3 crosses just to see which one I want to work on first) and yield was a very low priority this run, I expect it's going to be my worst run ever yield wise. At the same time, with the weather recently (hot and/or humid) I can't complain.
