@Aeroknow makes $42/hr, which is pretty good compared to most carpenters in CA. Most don't have such a good hourly wage but that's the high cost of not paying union dues. Most carpenters don't work full time all year, perhaps that explains the lower number for annual mean wage.
Cost of living for carpenters in CA and TX makes the wage disparity a wash. An annual wage of $55k in San Francisco has the same earning power as $32k in Fort Worth. So, as far as UB's gripe about unions are concerned, he's wrong as usual. The higher wages in CA are driven by the higher cost of living which is mainly due to the nice climate and better working conditions due to those same unions. Is it any wonder that more people would rather live in CA than in TX? I mean, people like Ben live in Texas.
