SH Bubbleponics White Widow grow. First Timer!

Mines seems to be pretty thick, not too transparent at all. I think I may put some tape on the lid anyways. Not duct tape though, because I've heard that it can get moldy due to the fiber in the tape. I am a bit too stoned right now to take some more pictures so I'm gonna go get some munchies :D

Sorry if I offended you or anything Roseman, I hope you will still stop by from time to time because I have seen how great your advice has been and I know that I will need it.

Anyways, since I last posted a lot has happened. I managed to break one of my lights by dropping it :-? So I am using just the light that I have left, which happens to be the "grow" light I believe.

I also got a humidifier because my meter was reading the humidity level at nearly zero. With the humidifier on the humidity can easily reach 90% unless I have my exhaust fan running (which I plan on running 24/7 once I get a speed control wired in). With the exhaust on it sits around 45-60%.

Is there any problems that could be caused by the humidity level changing often?

Should I try to ensure a 50-60% humidity level more strictly?

I changed the whole tank the other day with fresh ph balanced water (as close to 6.0 as I could get it). In the morning I noticed the tank smelled a bit and there was some foam.

I think the foam was possibly from something in the container I used to change the water. It was brand new from Walmart and stupidly I didn't wash it beforehand.

Anyways, I re-changed the tank tonight, making sure to clean both the tank and the containers I used to change the water. I also cleaned the pump and that also could have been the cause of the smell because it smelled the strongest and the filter was a slight bit dirty.

I plan on giving them 1/4 dose of nutes sometime tomorrow to ween the smaller ones into feeding so they can kind of catch up. Are there any problems that you can see here?

Here are some more pics:

I added a 1/4 dose of grow and micro after straining it through a coffee filter (the paper one-use kind).

Everything is looking great so far, I think.

Time to go smoke a bowl....bongsmilie

Those first three plants looks soo good! A loveley shade of green! Something is wrong with the last one? Is that white stuff on it mineral salt buildup or something? I got that stuff on my cubes, but not on the plant itself.. how'd that happen?

About the tubes above the rockwool: i have always read to butt the tube into the side of the cube, near the bottom to stimulate root growth.

The smallest plant sprouted and had that white stuff on it. It looks like it isn't part of the plant itself but is only on the embryonic leaves. I could probably scrape it off if I was careful.

The tips of the biggest leaves are a bit shriveled because I didnt have its water tube close enough one night a while back. It definitely looks like it is getting better though, there are some roots sticking out of the bottom of the cup too!

What you said about sticking the tube into the bottom of the cube sounds very interesting. I will definitely have to try it. I did take out the tubes to the 2 biggest plants because their roots are huge and deep in the water.

I have read that keeping them in once the roots are in the water can cause root rot. Is there any truth to this?

Sorry for not posting in a while, I have been a bit busy lately. Anyways, since I last posted I have managed to make the growing conditions a bit better.

The air temp never goes above 80° with my exhaust off (it is on every 15min for 15min). With the exhaust on the temp drops to about 72°.

The reservoir sits at about 72° as well. I thought I was beginning to see the start of some root rot (I could just be a bit paranoid). I completely changed the water and really scrubbed the container because it looked a bit dirty. I also took out the pump now which was probably causing the water to be as murky as it looked.

It has been almost 2 days since I changed the water and it still looks nice and clear with the roots looking a lot better and not smelling anymore.

I finally got my little ph testing pen today. I had left my ph strips in my tent and the humidity ruined them about a week ago. Thankfully my tank tested at 5.2, so I am bumping it up to 6.0 but .4 at a time.

I FIMed the 2 bigger plants on the 12th and the bigger of the 2 small plants on the 13th. I then FIMed the 2 bigger plants again on the 18th. This is the last time I plan on FIMing the 2 large ones. I may FIM the smaller one once it is a slight bit bigger. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

This is the beginning of week 5 from seed for the 2 bigger plants. The 2 smaller plants are about 5 days younger, but I almost killed the smallest one by messing with the feed tube.

My birthday is in a few weeks so I plan on picking up a 600w or 400w HPS or MH kit. What type of light should I get for flowering? Should I get 400w or 600w? HPS or MH?

Here are some pics from the past 2 weeks.

Metal Halide (MH)
Metal halide lighting systems are optimal for use in the vegetative phase of growing. They emit mostly blue light, which encourages vigorous growth of foliage. They are very efficient, but can get rather expensive to start with; fluorescents may seem more appealing because of their lower price, and they are not much different when compared on a lumen-to-lumen cost level. These lights can be used through-out the grow, but leave a lot to be desired in the BLOOM stage.

High Pressure Sodium (HPS)
High pressure sodium lights emit mostly orange, yellow, and red spectrum light, which is perfect for the flowering stage of the plants growth. They are (in my opinion) the most efficient type of light available for any application if you are not on a budget and can vent the grow area for heat. HPS lights can be used through-out the entire grow. They produce more dense and usually larger flowers or fruit than any other light. HPS lights are generally a little more expensive than MH systems of similar wattage. They are more commonly used by experienced commercial growers because of their ability to produce tighter denser flowers, higher lumen-output-per-watt, and will produce from start to finish.

Thanks for that Roseman! Now my only dilemma is if I should get a 400w or 600w. Since I will only be having 6 plants maximum would 600w be too much?

With a 6" fan attached directly to the reflector do you think the 600w would get too hot in a 2' x 4' x 5' tent? I will have the fan running 24/7.

Well with your dimensions your kinda left with not many options really. Most hoods themselves for the hps themselves are about 2 feet wide by two feet long. Then you still have to have room for the ducting if you want it air cooled, wich Imo since you have a small 2x4....I mean its possible for the 600 but its going to be cutting it close. You could just get the bulb and the small curvy reflector maybe to save you some room. Because I mean generally the 600 and the 400 will probably take the same amount of space so the decision comes down to venting. If you have a good air flow and maybe have two fans on the canopy you might not need to air cool it. Tough call tho. honestly, depends on your space and what kinda stuff you using

Sorry for not replying earlier, I was at work.

Roseman, I have a Elicent 6" fan. I think that might work . Thanks a ton for the invite to the Bubbleheads! I will get on that right away!

Esilva, sorry I didn't mention this. I just ordered a 2'x4'x5' tent last night. I am getting the Silver Star Slim so I will have 6" clearance on either side of the reflector. I picked up some sweet ducting from Home Depot the other day, I will take pics of the whole setup when my filter arrives tomorrow.

Thanks for all the help everyone!

EDIT: Anyone know what "BB code size value is too big." means? That is the error I receive when I try and put the Bubbleheads logo in my sig. I uploaded the picture through the MyRollitUp tools.

I am a little to out of it to post much information right now, but I will post some pictures.

As you will see, the plants have taken a turn for the worst. I have changed nothing.

The PH did fluctuate a lot a couple of days back but after I followed the 8 step recovery guide the water has been nice and clean with very little smell.

Help! :wall:
