sharing my modified subcool super soil recipe

Yes. That's why it's modified the original didn't use enough of something so important. Very hard to use to much azomite. The plants will take what they need.

Too much azomite in the root zone can cause salt build up if I'm not mistaken....

the instructions on the bag of azomite say its ok to use even more than im using. i dont have any problems and im perfectly happy with everything right now so i dont see any reason to tweak anything anymore. additives are nice (the LK, hi brix molasses, and hygrozyme) but straight water is great as well.

only thing ive changed since the original post is using a little more worm castings, and using the hi brix molasses, ive done it for 2 runs consistently now and im very happy with it in place of the sucanat.. plus its more convenient cuz the grow shop is just a few minutes from my house where the health food store that sells sucanat is about 15 minutes. plants seem happier on it, much more oily to the touch while growing. flavors are a little better as well.

on this latest batch i mixed i added a little more worm castings (just for simplicity purposes).. ill be using the batch on the next round starting in a couple of weeks.
i started using the brand of earth worm castings called EB organics (something like that.) it comes in a 1.5CU FT bag. i got tired of trying to pinpoint half a bag, sometimes id use more, sometimes less.. so this last mix i just dumped the whole bag in there. assuming all goes well (which i dont see why it wouldnt) ill update the recipe making that the final change period. heres a link to the worm castings for info purposes. i dont order it from this site, but this is what it looks like:
http://www.ebstone.org/13_earthworm.php

edit:
actually im going to order some rice hulls right now and add it to the current soil mix that is sitting waiting.
ive always wanted to add rice hulls to the mix for their silica content in an attempt to strengthen/thicken the plants stems and increase yield (i liked what botanicare silica blast did, but it is not organic and builds up a lot of salt in soil). ive researched a natural silica alternative very extensively in the past and always decided rice hulls would be the answer. I never took the step in attempting it, but i think now is the time.
i will update the thread with the results when the time comes.

mixed in the rice hulls today on the current batch being cooked.. i added 16 cups (plastic red cups from costco).. basically about 1000 grams roughly.. doesnt have to be exact. mixed it in, it looks beautiful in there, perfect amount. im going to start adding these rice hulls in small amounts all thru veg as well so the silica can really do its job all thru veg and thru flower as well.

have about 2-3 weeks left on this current batch of soil being cooked before its going to be put to use.

i ordered the organic rice hulls from groworganic.com 50 pound bag. should last a very long time. i decided to add them for 2 reasons, im using twice the amount of worm castings now than i did before, i was concerned of the slight possibility of water retention being too high in the soil, so the first reason was for aeration. rice hulls are perfect for this. and the second and equally as important was that rice hulls (as mentioned before) are a very high percentage of silica. this should equate to stronger thicker stems, which means higher quality buds that weigh more, and are bigger in general. if i think the results are a drastic improvement (i highly expect they will be) i will post a modified version of the soil probably around march 2013. and that should be the final stamp for this soil mix...

i have a list i have been assembling of a completely new soil mix using different types of manures and other all organic/natural additives that is something completely different than any soil mix being used right now by anybody. done a lot of homework and a lot of research.. in theory i think it will be a homerun in organic cannabis growing, probably around the beginning of spring/summer i will order all the ingredients and give it a test run. If its something really good like i expect it to be i will create a new thread to share it with everybody.

Sounds great, can't wait to hear how the added rice hulls worked out. I use a product called Bumper Crop which has some added rice hulls in it, perhaps i'll have to start adding a bit more on my own.

I am now using a similar mix. Roots, promix, bone meal, fish meal, alfalfa meal, kelp meal, + mycos, lactose-b, worm castings, cold processed seaweed and liquid humic.

not sure on the yeild.. i dont weigh em anymore after i trim. i just jar em up. i use large mason jars which hold about a qp give or take. most of the strains ive decided to keep will fill 2 mason jars. so an estimate would be no less than 6oz a plant.
Good recipe bro! Im going to mix some up in the next week. I have 3 GDP, 3 WW & 3 Blue Cheese. If you don't mind, what strains where your high yeilders? Where did you get your seeds from?

ive always grown from clones obtained from collectives here in cali, or from friends who got them from collectives. the only ones ive grown from seed were bagseed from really good female weed that just so happened to have a seed in it. this last round i just wrapped up was 3 diff strains from seed. 1 was a strain i had in the past that i lost, the other popped up in the yard at random, and the 3rd is a rare strain that probably very few people have (sweet n sour kush) that i was fortunate enough to be gifted some seeds by a very cool friend of mine that ran a collective here at one time. i believe there is only 1 circle of people in norcal that have this strain, and i was told i had to find my own pheno when i asked for a clone lol. all good though. anyway, that strain is fire, super fat buds, and the smell is god-like. like sweet sour strong blueberry type of smell. but one of the two seedpops of that strain hermi'ed around week 3, and so there is a very light amount of seeds in this round, but who cares i love good seeds. as long as its not more seeds than bud.

the random yard popper smells like really sweet trainwreck. i think it might be a cross between a trainwreck hybrid (maybe from the neighbors plants) that pollinated my sour diesel i had there. it smells piney, finishes by day 56. when you squeeze it it smells like sweet trainwreck. and the high is visually intense at first, then it is extremely relaxing after the initial peak. this strain really lowers my blood pressure a lot.

the sour d is what it is, exactly like the original that i wanted to get back, except i think the yield is fatter this time. its hard as a rock, and fills out every single branch completely. even the small little popcorn buds at the base of the stem on the bottom of the plant are dense. good stuff.

the thing about growing from seed is u always run the risk of getting seeds in your final product, some people dont like that, i prefer to have seeds in stock as long as it doesnt affect the bud smoke while getting them. the thing about clones is most clones from collectives have mites, so im sticking with my strains i have and not accepting any more from the outside, and if i do want a new strain, itll be a seed pop where i will look for my own pheno. cuz i like to be different than what everyone else has out there.

i have my eyes on Kens Phantom cookies from the GDP collective (phantom is cherry pie crossed with kens GDP, so phantom cookies is phantom crossed with girl scout cookies...) once i have this strain i will probably not add another one for a while. sounds like the ultimate hybrid of every strain i have/want.

anyway, i got my strain list down to Kens GDP, Sour Diesel, and XJ13. I'm not sure if im keeping the yard popper yet, or the sweet n sour kush yet.. need to experiment with them more still. yard popper is really frosty, im just not sure if it outshines xj13 quite yet. and the sweet n sour is a rare one, but im not sure if it didnt get as dense as it could have because of the pollination, or if its just that way, i think it will get 1 or 2 more runs to confirm what it does then ill decide on that one. but the smell is OMG AMAZING.

high end:: as far as the fishbone meal, i use the down to earth brand as well (most of my additives i use from them) but i dont recall it having bones in it.. other than bones grinded down... its not a fine powder, its sort of like a powder with small shards of what looks like bone/hay type substance.. it should be really small though, not like an arm bone or something lol.

dose em with the liquid karma, hygrozyme and hi-brix the day u transplant em, and every week following until around the beginning of week 6.. then water only for the rest of flower.. they will be great.

Awesome deal man! I'm growing Jillybean right now and I'm following your advise to a T so I hope it works as well for me as it does you. I got a real small thing going on right now. But I basically want to have 4 great strains and pull one out every 2 weeks or so... I'm not an indica guy but I have some clientele that are so i'm prolly gonna be sativa heavy. Not sure why I'm sharing this with you LOL but yea... That's the game plan.

Do you still just fill the pots with supersoil or use plain roots soil and whitch pots do you use cause I got the ones that say 7 on the bottom and was told that they are only 5gals so I was going to get the pots with 10 on the bottom I think those are the ones sub use cause they have a lip on them.

I can't wait to see your new soil mix. Let's hear about any progress towards it or what amendments you'll be using in it. Really like the original mix in this thread.:bigjoint:

just to keep it real basic thus far ill give a general discription.. ive already located and priced out the additives.. its not going to start with a bag of premixed soil (such as roots organic). it will instead be a combination of organic compost, composted manure, alaska humus, rice hulls, azomite, worm castings, blood meal, bone meal, alfalfa meal, kelp meal, guano, green sand, rock phosphate, sulfate potash, and an additive that includes beneficial fungii (such as mycorrhizae) and also yucca extract, aloe vera extract, and fulvic acids.

That sounds great!! Living soil! Nothing like making your own living soil. Sounds like you have a great start. There are a few good threads on here that are talking about living soil, and making your own soil from scratch. That's the direction I'm headed as well and can't wait to see your results with your own soil. Looks like you've had nothing but good results from the original recipe in the op, so I'm sure your going to kill it with the new soil. Good luck and keep us posted!:bigjoint:

I take oatmeal and wet it slightly and place in a dark warm space, after a week you will have webs, use that in your teas, its great

rice hulls will also keep your soil from compacting. after rice harvest you can get truckloads around sacto for free

Im not sure if someone has asked already but in your version of SS you cut out the rockphosphate. Is there a reason for that or did you forget to write it down?

Also i noticed somewhere you mentioned sugaree from CE, i got a quart as a gift and the stuff is really good i havent used LK so i cant compare the two but sugaree is super nice and OMRI.

Thanks for sharing. Im planning a decent size outdoor grow with the supersoil will check back in about 3 months with pics and results
